Product Review - Gerber X-Change A Blade Saw
Product Review - Gerber X-Change A Blade Saw
I've had an old Gerber folding saw for probably 6-8 years now, and I'd finally worn it out. The teeth were dulled down, chipped, broken, etc... So, it was time to reload. For $20 at Gander, I got thislittle number- it comes with two blades (a bone/light wood blade and a heavy wood blade) and a nice black nylon sheath. Anyway, I used it to clear lanes and hang a standon Saturday, and it gets an A+ rating. First off, it's equipped with asolid rubber handle that really sticks to your hands/gloves. The blade never comes loose, and it locks into position nicely with a soft, buttery "click." The steel construction is rigid enough that there is virtually no chance of failure. The blades are nice and sharp, with some lateral flexibility, which is nice if you are cutting on a bind. New blades are only $5-$7, and hopefully they remain available down the line. I used my old one to hack through the pelvic girdle during field dressing and it performed amicably, but I'm sure this new bone-specific blade will work much better. Two more little features that I liked were: [ol][*]Hole in the end of the handle to attach utility rope/lanyard[*]Oversized Blade Bolt that you can change/tighten while wearing gloves.[/ol] Overall, this saw is a well-engineered piece of equipment that is very reasonably priced. The thing is,if my memory serves me right, I think I paid around $20 for my old model, which is nowhere near as nice as this one. I guess it's just one of those rare instances where you get MORE for your money now. Score one for the good guys. ![]() ![]() |
