rangefinder , what do you like, mine sucks
I have the Nikon yardage pro 800 and hate it. The AAA batteries dont last in cold weather, the battery door has a latch that pops open if you look at it wrong(actually lost it once) and i have pulled it out of my pack and had the batteries all in my pack yet.I put a blob of silicone on it to make it harder to slide the open lever open and it seemed to help. The button is too easy to depress, i have had it in my gearbag or daypack and had the batteries die because the button was depresses.
I wodered if anyone has a newer model, with a better battery life for cold weather or pack trips.

I'm hoping to get a Yardage Pro Sport for Christmas. How do you like yours? Does the battery last a long time?
I think the Sport is a good bargain for the bowhunter.
Sorry to hear about problems with the Nikon, have you contacted the company? I would think they would replace the unit if it was using batteries unreasonably.

Nikon Buckmaster 400.
Love it - great battery life - about 1 battery per season.
I really like the 1/2 yardage readout to 100yds. Kinda overkill but I'm a nut for details.
Don't waste the extra $$ on the cammo version. Mine's black & sometimes I wish it were day-glo orange.

I have the Bushnell Yardage Pro 500 and have used and abused it for over 3 years, with no problems.

Bowhunting World November 2000 has a good article on page 59 about various rangefinders. I took the poor man's approach and chose Ranging model TRL75. It is pretty accurate within 40 yrds which is all I need bow hunting. The article has some good things to say about the Bushnell pro sport.

I called nikon and what a joke it was. I tried to state my case that the loss of the battery cover was due to poor design and should be covered under the warrenty. They denied the claim and i had to buy one , and it took over a month to get it.
