I. O. R. scopes?
 

A buddy of mine swears by these scopes, works with a dozen guys who use them. Anyone have any experience with these scopes? I never see them in any advertisements or in local hunting stores........

They are basically generic versions of high end German scopes. You find advertisements for them in Shotgun News and Gun List. I've looked through them several times on different rifles, the glass is very clear and they appear to work well. They simply do not have name recognition that others have.

Ryan is dead on. I own one and love it. I use it on my long range rig. The MP-8 reticle is great. I reccomend these scopes to anyone.

I. O. R. Is the largest producer of millitary optics in the wold. They started in Romania about 1935. Somehow they survived the war and communism. They get thier glass from Schott in germany (So does Zeiss) and they use Zeiss tm3 coating. My impression of these scopes is they are some of the most durable optics on the planet. Optical quality is very good although not on par with Zeiss and Swarovsky. But they are less than half as much. IOR also has come out with an incredible new series that has a magnification ratio of 6. Most scopes can go from 3-9 or even from 4-12 magnification. IOR's new scope does 2-12!! and 3-18!! That is pretty incredible.
I love my IOR binoculars. Resolution is good, and they are bullit proof. But a bit heavey.
You can get a 30mm 2.5-10x42 hunting scope online for qbout 550. That is alot of performance for under 6 bills.

I had to revisit this topic again;
Elk and OK, how are these scopes for light gathering? I have both a Kahles and Zeiss models and am VERY pleased with low light shooting- will these Valdada's be the same quality?
I am going to mount it on a Ruger 30-06 and am anxious to go shoot it!

The light gathering is verygood. Maybe not on par with the Leupold MK4, Zeiss Diavari, and Swaro PH. But they are cheaper. Of the three second tier Euro scopes (Docter, Meopta and IOR) I would be hard pressed to pick a winner. But if you look at the price of the 30mm 2.5-10 scopes from IOR, it is under 600 bucks. That is alot of bang for the buck. I admit I didn't do any serious tests with the scope. But it seemed as bright as anything or brighter in it's range.
