Open Sights & Bifocals
 

I am a hand gun shooter.
I shoot open sights.
I am 46 years old.
I now need bifocals to see up close. :eek:
I am having trouble seeing the sights. [&o]

I haven't got any bifocals yet.
Right now I just wear focus toric contacs.
And wear cheap reading glass's.
It helps me see close but not far away.
Like the target.

Any one have any ideas
Other than scopes ?

I have bifocals and don't have a problem shooting my Marlin 30-30. I just make sure I keep my head tilted just a tad so I don't get bothered with the bifocal bottom of the glasses.

My big woods brush gun is a 30:06 Remington 7600 carbineand I have a Williams peep on it. I have trouble with standard open sights but a peep works out great. No problems seeing the sight and target in focus.

start out with a pair of 1 power reading glasses if you dont have prescription glasses.

if target is fuzzy but you can see sights, go to a .75 or .50.

you can get the 1 power at dollar stores but you will have to order the .75/50 ones.

i can use the 1 power ok but i think a .75 would show target better and sights too.

for prescription, get the tri-focals in apower that works for you on the reading glasses.

take your 1 power reading glasses and just put them over your prescription glasses up near top of lense.

if they work fine and target isjust a little fuzzy, not much, you have power to tell your eye doctor to put in the tri-focal.

Im in the same boat as you and currently wear bifocals. With open sights its a little tricky but I first line up the rifle with the target, focus in on the front and rear sights and get them lined up the way I want them then keeping them lined up, I focus in on the target and place the front sight where I want it and squeze the trigger. alittle getting use to but it works for me. Scopes are not poblem.

the .50 reading glasses were a big help to me.

if you have prescription glasses,you can get a TRI-FOCAL of .50 put in them at top.

but that is not cheap.

i cant find a .50 for someone that wears glasses.

they have the ones that go on your hat that flip down BUT they only go as 1.25 power.

stick on ones, 1.25 power also, thats no good.

i wish they would make a stick on one in a .50,i am calling the company again, seems they are not interested but i am.

get the biggest size if you are using them for muzzleloader shooting to keep a hot spark from getting in your eye.

I had to get bifocals several years ago, when I was your age, and I also had concerns. They take some getting use to and I find myself moving my head ever so slightly sometimes to get a good sight picture, but overall, it's not a big issue, at least to me.

the TRI-FOCAL is the best in your glasses at about .50 power.

way you would test it is to buy a .50 from site i rec above,put it over your glasses at the TOP.

then look at your sights and aim at target at 25 yds.

if target is slightly fuzzy, not much and your sights are fairly clear, the front sight should be clear and rear a little fuzzy or clear, THEN YOU NEED A .50 TRI-FOCAL IN YOUR GLASSES.

they dont make a stick-on,that would be cheapest way to do it but they only go as low as a 1.25, THATS NO GOOD, it has to be a .50
