Hunting From a dirt bike?

I really have Know idea where to put this so im puting it in here. Since im kinda looking for a review. Ok well I live and LOVE the catskill mountains in new york. Thats all I ever hunt now my question is hunting from a dirt bike? like have the gun slung over your shoulder and head up the mountain? I know a dirt bike would be useless in just a little snow , and a quad would be better in snow and stuff. But ive had quads all my life and ive raced and everything never had a dirtbike. So im thinking of geting a nice 4 stroke bike to use for hunting around, or should i just get a new 4x4 quad (grizzly) ???

There's nothing like the noise of an engine to let game know thatpeople are in the area. Plus you have the potential to aquire the usual gas and oil smells associated with small engines. If you want to go riding, do it. If you want to go hunting, walk, or use a trail bike. I'm not sure how you would even get a deer out using a dirt bike.

i have to agree it would be tough hunting on a dirtbike.. but i have to disagree about the engine noise scaring any game off .. just yesterday we were clearing out some old trails and cutting a couple new ones to get better access to stands we had been cutting for 2 hours rode up the hill to check out another trail and jumped 4 does 1 took off the other 3 just stood and stared as i drove by ..they had been watching us the whole time. granted were we hunt there is a lot of off hunting season riding and they are more used to atv's and bikes

I'm confused. Are you looking for a bike that takes you in to the deep woods, or just up to the deep woods? If it's in to, than 25 mph is plenty fast enough. These Rokons will take you through stuff that an ATV only dreams of.

Well he we go again - if someone doesn't follow the practices that I believe in, it either won't work out or it's silly. Whatever.

A dirt bike will get you into tighter areas than an ATV, that's for sure. An ATV will go thru mud and water better, that's for sure. As far as how close you want to go to your actual hunt area would be your call. I have had deer walk within feet of ATV's on our farm, come in to me and get shot. There IS NOT alot of machines around the property except ag equipment (tractors).

As far as getting deer out of the area with a dirtbike, you could just slowly pull them back down with a rope.

When I was a kid growing up in Arkansas, there used to be a guy we hunted with who brought his motorcycle hunting every year. This was back when 3 wheelers seemed to just be coming on the scene. He was able to go many places we could not. He had a gun case tied to his front forks. He might look a little odd these daysafter the evolution from 3 wheelers to 4 wheelers, but I can remember how I admired him when I was makingthe mile 1/2 walk to my stand.

And yes, he just drug them out with a rope.
