I wouldn’t have to much faith in the bullet drop compensator. You would have to test your rifle to see how it would work with the scope. The Dusk & Dawn scope is not top of the line so the quality might not be as reliable. Good luck if you go that route...

A bullet drop compensator is just a way of dialing in elevation to compensate for the bullets trajectory.Of course you need to know the exact range and your actual bullets trajectory must match the trajectory that the scope is calibrated for,for it to be of much use.

my bushnell 420030mm is the brightest on the planet...and the clarity is like no other..the end.........

The 4200 1.5-6x36 is the perfect scope for my whitetail hunts. If I hunted more open areas I would opt for the 2.5-8x40mm.
Awesome scope. I love the fact that everyone is facinated with Leupolds, because when I buy a used rifle that has a Leupold on it I can get good $$ for it on Ebay. I have a Leupold VXII that I need to put on soon. It is a POS in regards to clarity around the edges. Funny thing is many people have looked through this scope and commented on how clear it is. They have obviously never looked through a real nice scope or they don't know what they are looking at. I told my dad I would trade him for a Burris on one of his rifles that is very clear, but I have since decided to sell it and get a 4200. He, like alot of people on here swear by Leupold and thinks my scope is very clear. LOL. Now to be fair one of the main reason both my Dad and my Brother like Leupold is because they have a lot of eye relief. My brother judges scopes strictly by how crappy he can hold his gun and still get a good sight picture. Many shooters are the same in this regard
I am not bashing Leupold scoped as I know they do make a fine product, but it cracks me up to hear people think they are the best value in scopes. That they are not.

One needs to spend alot more money to find a scope thatout performs the Elite 4200 series. So many people are stuck on the Leupold name and they do make good scopes, but the I would take a Elite 4200 over aVXIIIin a heartbeat. They also have the 3200 series that is more on par with the VXII series.

Yes if you want to shoot accurately you need to know the bullet drop for your rifle and adjust. The compensator is for those too lazy to test and be able to do the simple math. You may get a rifle/scope combo that will get you close if you are very lucky. I would rather do it the right way and hold over the proper amount for the distance. You just need to know the range and the ballistics for your gun. That said I have never took a shot ata deer over 200 yards, so I don't speak with much experience with long range shooting at Deer. I just would never trust this to work on a cheap scope for the kind of distance you would be shooting if you actually needed a feature like that.

RE: which rifle scope?
I have to agree with these guys on the Bushnells. I have 3 Leupolds, 2 Vari-X II's in 3x9x40 a VX II in 3x9x50 and a VX -III 6.5 -20x40 and have never been overly impressed with any of them. I have a Bausch and Lomb 4000(made by Bushnell) in 4x16x50 and a 3200 3x9x40 w|raingaurd and would take Bushnells over the Leupolds. They just look clearer to me and that 4x16 is the brightest scope Ive ever looked through.
I think the Leupolds are way overpriced. A300$ VX-II 3X9is no better then a 200$3200 with the Rainguard.
Im not sure what you mean by reasonable but Weaver makes some half decent stuff on the lower end of the high priced scopes or any of the 3200's are pretty reasonable. I have a 4x16 Weaver classic on my 22-250 and its pretty clear its not the greatest dusk to dawn scope but that doesnt much matter for groundhogs. IF they are too much look into a SImmons Atec they are very nice scopes in the lower price range.
www.midwayusa.com has a SImmons Whitetail Classic 6x20x50 on sale for 99$ that pretty reasonable. I have one on an old Rem 788 in 6mm and its not to bad for the $.
