Cabela's Double Mackinaw Wool Coat?
Hey all!
I was looking to purchase a heavy wool coat and was wondering if anyone owns, or has seen up close, the new Cabela's Woodsman Double Mackinaw wool coat and could comment on it. I see it is two layers of 27oz wool and looks very similar to the Filson Double Mackinaw, but it is about $100 less. I realize that you can't beat Filson for quality, but I was wondering if anyone has seen these Cabela's Double Mackinaws and whether or not you think they would be a good purchase for the money. ALso, if anyone has any experience with any other Cabela's wool coat I would appreciate their reviews/input. |

I would trust almost anything from Cabelas. My experience has been their stuff is first quality and their return policy is no questions asked. Hard to beat that.

I was at cabelas last week and looked at them. They are a good value for the money. Check ebay before you buy...I bought a barely used, ll bean wool cruiser for $17 about a month ago!

Thanks RaginCajun.....I'll have to keep an eye out for gear on Ebay. I've seen that LL bean wool cruiser and it looks really nice. That's another thing.....I'm not ti sure what to get because the LL Bean one is two layers of 15 oz wool, while the Filson/Cabelas is two layers of 24oz wool. I'm also thinking of getting a large Cabela's Outfitters wool coat (one layer of wool) and layering with a 300 polartec underneath......kinda like a cheap version of Sleeping Indian. Oh the choices......

Check into Beagle Wear also. Good wool stuff there and made in Vermont.

Try to make an excuse to go see one at a nearby Cabela's. That may mean traveling a bit. Personally If I could possibly afford it, I would go with the filson double mackinaw It's quality is beyond question.
I think the cabela's stuff is made by columbia but It could be woolrich. |
RE: Cabela's Double Mackinaw Wool Coat?
Unfortunately, I don't live close to any Cabela's. The reason I am thinking about Cabela's is because I have heard others complain that Filson's is starting to make stuff overseas and their quality has gone down too......especially for the price.

Be cautious of your "Made in the USA" labels....when I recently bought my A-bolt, I thought i was buying American also....untill I found out that they're also made in Belgium and Japan [:'(]

If you're runnin' (tracking) down your deer, don't get an insulated liner. You will regret it within the first mile. If you're sitting, go thick with the wool and have a wind proof shell. You'll never go wrong with good wool.

Has anybody since seen the Cabela's Double Mackinaw and can provide comments on quality compared to the Filson Double Mac?
