Special Golden Estrus Field Report
This past weekend was the firearm opener for deer here in Nebraska. Anyway, I took along Special Golden Estrus, felt scent wicks and felt boot pad. This was my first time ever using attractant scents. I put some scent on the wicks and boot pad and set it up about 15 feet away from an active scrape and heavily traveled path. Does were interested in the wick as well as a few smaller bucks-they all showed real interest in the scent-That was neat to see, but I had one buck take it a little further. One ave. 8pt passed and beat up the ground below the scent wick and really showed interest in the scent. After about 10 minutes of this show, he stuck his nose to the ground and began to follow the scent trail left by the fely pad on my boot. The buck walked up to the trees that I trimmed for a shooting lane smelled around that for a bit then kept following the trail up to within 30 feet of me!I was just sitting at the base of a tree, he knew something was there but just stood sniffing the ground, pacing and stomping the ground-I passed on the buck alothough I was thinking self defense for awhile!-it was one of the most memorable events I've ever had deer hunting. Eventually, the buck got bored and left on his own. It was my first time using any attractant scents and it worked ok for me this past weekend.
