RE: Cabelas Tree Climbing Spikes?
I had a friend that had a pair of the sportsmans gaffs and man they do slip if you are not really careful. |
RE: Cabelas Tree Climbing Spikes?
I'm assuming you are still only wanting to trim trees with these.
The professional tree trimmers I learned from NEVER used gaffs. They used ropes to climb, tie off, and then roped the limbs down. I've done quite a few now myself and I will always use my climbing tree stand all I can along with a rope attached to the back ring on my harness for a safety. It makes a world of difference if you have a saw light enough to operate at arms length with one hand as well. With only gaffs and a hip lanyard if you hit the rope with the saw, you are done. If you are going to try to go that way, I'd at least make up a wire rope to use for climbing. |
