Thermacell & bear hunting

I have seen reviews on this and how well it works on skitters but has anyone ever used it on a spring bear hunt in Canada? Does it work on black flys? How about any odors it may produce, since bear can smell unbelieveably well?

My son just got back from a bear hunt in Saskatchewan and was encouraged to use one by his guides. They say that the bears apparently cannot smell them.

Also , any or if any odor that may be caused by them is warmer than the surrounding air. Hence goes up first and dissapates and should be hundreds of yards down wind and be of no concern. Also, swatting at bugs would be alot more noticable and detrimental to your hunt and safety.

RE: Thermacell & bear hunting

I used mine here in NH last Fall while hunting bear, they never noticed a thing and it works on the black flies on my Spring turkey hunts. I had two cubs come in downwind and were hanging around a good 30 minutes or so. With in minutes of me turning off the therma-cell before heading home (so it will cool off) and I was attacked by every flying biting blood sucking insect in the woods that evening. I use my just so I can grill on the back porch seeing I've got two hatcheries near my house, a pond in the front yards and a river in the back[:o] The thing works!
