SHARPENING SERRATED AND STRAIGHT BLADES
What blade do you use and what do you use to sharpen them?
I have a SOG SEAL PUP ( half straight/half serrated) and sharpen it with a "smiths" sharpening system, but am always looking for something better and easier. |

I have a SOG SEAL PUP ( half straight/half serrated) and sharpen it with a "smiths" sharpening system, but am always looking for something better and easier. On all other blades depending on how dull they are from dullest to the finishing touch I use the same progression. File, fine file, stone, ceramic sticks, leather strap. Most times all ti takes is a couple "hits" on the crock sticks and it's razor sharp, Buck knives, Leatherman, fillet knives, hatchet. |
RE: SHARPENING SERRATED AND STRAIGHT BLADES
I've been using a Lanskey sharpening system for years. I don't have any serrated blades either but they do sell a stone for sharpening serrated blades. They keep the stone at the correct angle and once you have the correct edge on your knife, it only takes about 5 minutes to get an edge back to razor sharpe.

Heres another trick I learned from a fellow lineman.Roll your window down on your vehicle and hold the same angle that the knif or serration has and stroke across the top of the vehicle window for each serration.Usually when I camp, hunt or fish I do this, especially when I take to the woods,or getting ready to fillet some fish.Try it it works great.I have a one of the good knife sharpening sets but have found that the window works just as good and is less of a hastle. Now at work our knives need a rougher edge(for skinning high voltage wire insulation),the razer sharp smooth edge doesn't work as well.So we use a file, grinding wheel,or stone.

If that works that is a neat idea. Hmmm I will try it.
