German Shorthaired Pointer/ Weimaraner mix
I have a 1 year old female German Shorthaired Pointer and shegot in my 3 year old Weimaraner's pin and before I knew it they were locked together. So now I am expecting pups from them sometime around Thanksgiving. I was wondering if anyone owns or has seen a mix like this. If so do you have pictures and also send me some comments about this.
Thanks, T.R. |
RE: German Shorthaired Pointer/ Weimaraner mix
Same thing happened to me some years ago when in5 seconds flat my GSP got stuck in there and there was nothing I could do about it. The result was a fine looking litter of pups all of which turned out with really keen noses. They had GSP build and physique andWeimer agility. The coat turned out solid liver but with the Weimer sheen to them. Really nice looking dogs. Unfortunately Inever took any pics.

Did you sell them or did you give them away? If sold for how much?
Thanks, T.R. |

RE: German Shorthaired Pointer/ Weimaraner mix
I think I might try to sell them b/c a few people told me they would give me $250 for one. What do you think? They should be good dogs I know both parents are really good in the field.
Thanks T.R. |

Sounds like you will have some fine pups. Both are great dogs so I'm sure you can gett something out of them. I would keep one if I were you if possible. Be sure to post pics once born.

RE: German Shorthaired Pointer/ Weimaraner mix
I knew a man in KS when I lived there who had a GSP/Weimeraner puppy that he was training as a bird dog. It was beautiful, like a chocolate Weimeraner with a white chest, and seemed to be doing very well. I think he actually looked for that specific cross when buying his puppy, so you'll probably find you have a good market for them. I'd imagine they'd make great pets for an active family too.

RE: German Shorthaired Pointer/ Weimaraner mix
I can totally relate to you trmckinn.
A few years ago my brother and I were taking care of a buddy's female german shorthair while he did road construction for the summer. She was a year old and very energetic so having her at our place in teh country made a lot of sense... Anyway our buddy forgot to mention that she may be going in the heat in August. Must have slipped his mind. Well one hot weekend in august as we are sitting around grilling some t-bones we notice the neighbor dog, a red and white britney spaniel coming around a bit. We didn't think anything of since both dogs had spent the summer chasing pigeons/crows in the hay fields around our place. Anyway in no time flat the brit managed to get his little self up on top of her and well you know the rest of the story.... A couple of months later we had a litter of 8 pups; half britney spaniel and half german shorthair. Very beautiful pups...They looked exactly their mother with no coloring what so ever of the dad in any of the pups. The only thing we notice of Brit traits in them was smaller skull sizes and shorter noses. We ended up selling 4 of the 8 for about $50 a piece (pretty cheap but they were starting to eat us out of house and home)and gave 3 away to friends and family. My brother kept one as a hunting dog since he had a good nose on him. My brother has had that dog for a few years now and is one of the best pointer we have hunted with and according to my brotherhis dog is a natural hunter.my brotherhasn't spent very much time training his dog in at all. I had a buddy who stated he would only buy and hunt with purebred dogs. Saying something that purebred were superior because they weren't tainted by bad genes. My brother's crossbred out pointed, hunted and retrieved my buddy's purebred britney spaniel on not one but 4 different hunting trips. IMO-Crossbreds can be every bit a hunter/companion as the purebreds are. Afterall they have the best of both parents as far as genes and instincts go. (That was actually what I told one of the buyers of our pups who was thinking of making the pup into a hunting dog. Must have agreed with me since he took one the females with a stronger nose) trmckinn, youprobably won't get the price you would on a purebred pup but if you can verify that mom and dad are from good hunting stock you make be able to get a few bills for them. Post some pics when they arrive I would love to see how they look. |
I'm expecting a liter of gsp/weimaraner in about 2 weeks. Unfortunately this isn't the liter I had planned but my gsp took care of that for me. Both dogs are registered and have seemed to do fairly well in the field. I welcome any and all inquiries for pups, along with any and all suggestions and help.

I have a 3yr old female Pointeraner (gsp/weim) and I'm looking to get another female because I love this mix. Anyone out there have puppies? I'm located in the Tri-State area of MD, WV, VA. I will not be hunting this pup, more of a hiking, running pal and companion to my Indie.
Thanks! |
Looks like I'll be having some pointeraner pups at the end of October. My purebred female gsp dug a hole over to my purebred male weim's side of the kennel. I walked out to see them locked together. Moms an amazing pheasant hunter, and dad only points our cats! :D (but to give him credit, he was never trained for hunting as a pup.)
Any pics/hunting info on this hybrid would be appreciated. |
