Texas Heat Hog shot

How long can I leave a wild hog in a cooler un-gutted completely covered in ice? With the texas heat, I'm having to go kill the hogs caught in my trap on my lunch break, if not they are dead from the heat by the time I get off work. With that being said I'm not having time to gut them until later in the evening. Usually 3 to 4 hrs after being shot. Any advice would be great. Thanks

Bacteria start working in the gut the moment the hog is dead, I would not want to eat a hog that has been dead for 3 to four hours even if it was covered with. The ice will not cool the inside of the hog very well.

Agreed. I don’t eat any hog over 50lbs anyway so getting the guts out would be quick.
