Question for Oklahoma/Texas Hog hunting
I live in Colorado and wanting to do some hog hunting in either OK or TX. I'm wanting to find a place with a guide but wanting reviews. It seems like there are more and more places that are charging alot of hidden fees and such. Are there any good places out there that someone could recommend? I don't mind high fence areas for hogs. I am not interested in exotics or rams, just looking to fill the freezer and take a kid and friends hunting and not break the bank. I appreciate any help. I've tried to do a ton of research but i keep striking out on finding a good, legit operation.

Not a guide but love to hunt, when are you wanting to hunt and how Old is the kid you mention? Doesn't matter, good luck there are honest places but when money's involved greed takes over all too often. I live and hunt on 2 farms and spend as much time in the puplic L b j grasslands . Tok 2 hogs while deer hunting. I feed them and if you'll keep in touch I can share some spots that will have hogs . Price is free , no hidden fees . Just want you to have what God gave me , free pigs. There's no lodge , we can camp or you can get a room . We will hunt hogs and fish so bring your pole, think about it , I know it's not the guided hunt you asked for but I bet it's better. I can send you some photos if you pm me

^^^^^^^seems like a good deal to me!!
There are several outfitters here in Oklahoma. Chain Ranch, Shiloh ranch are a couple that are not too expensive. Don't expect to get a 400 lber though. The average hog, even at the paid places are 100 to 200 lbs. If you are wanting a big European hog ya might have to do some digging on the web for a good deal. |
Very generous offer from Blessed.:cool2:
Yep; kudos go out for that offer!
I agree with Topgun, nice of you to offer your help blessed.
Blessed, DM sent. I definitely will take you up on that offer. I'm not worried about guides, lodging, any of that. Be glad to trade you for the same set up up here in Colorado for either a mule deer or elk hunt.

Haven't found a message but glad to help and looking forward to it , I am fixing to go dump 6 five gallon buckets of produce blue berries ,bananas ,oranges ,mushrooms ,tomatoes, apples and pears in a spot I took a hog at with my crossbow .Im going to explore a new spot at a lake I've heard good things about this weekend with my lab , thanks for the offer to do the same , I appreciate it very much. I probably can't but I got to admit before im gone im gonna harvest a moose with my bow. Cow or bull doesn't really matter.i work for myself so I don't have much free time. I mostly hunt early or late but still sueeze work in. Crappy tumor in my jaw got me some free time I really enjoyed and needed .anyway I still can't figure photo bucket out , would love to send yall some pics if yall can help me. I sent some to photo bucket , it always tells me my email or passwords not the same and it is so that's why I've never shared a photo. How much time will yall be able to stay ? I also have a friend who has an awesome place in Olney we can go to , I dove hunt there and he's got some nice pigs

All you have to do is click on the box that says forgot your pass word. they will send you an e-mail right away for you to set another one. When you get in, write down your password so you can find it if you forget it.
Thanks I'll try that now
Im trying , I've done it twice and it says it's been sent but my latest e mail is 2 hours ago , probably just slow
Naaa...They have your email goofed up...Have you gotten any emails from photobucket lately? They goof a lot at times. You can also store your photos here (limited but you can store a few) in your album on your profile.
Gonna have to get my daughters help , I opened photobucket and had a hog picture loaded , sent some pics to photo bucket or thought I did but can't find them ,don't know much about my computer except it would make a good trot line weight. Not knowing simple things like what do you push to send pics frustrates me. Please don't laugh too hard but what's the difference between a elk and a moose ? Probably should have saved face and looked that up but oh well, wanna know, gotta ask, thanks
Here are pictures of both along with others.http://www.wildnatureimages.com/Moos...ou_and_Elk.htm
Thank you, those were nice
What's the difference between an Elk and a Moose? Oh anywhere between 300-750 pounds and a whole heck of a lot of attitude! There aren't many predators willing to take on a Bull Moose all by their lonesome and only the very hungry pack of Wolves would attempt it either. Even a Big Old Brown Bear will go another direction unless driven by extremes. In all honesty, you wouldn't want a Cow Moose angry with your much either.
I never realized how cool an elk was , I would love to hunt moose as well . I think calling a bull and the close interaction would be amazing. Im a bow hunter by heart and would love to take one someday. There's a whole world out there just waiting to be explored !! Be safe n thanks
My next cool hunt will be a mule deer hopefully, just gotta go a little farther west and north from here , been looking at some public bow hunting oppurtunities in the pan handle region .
Mornin guys , headed up a little west of Alvord Texas to scout for hogs and hopefully bring one home, gonna walk unit 4 and unit 5 for sure, hope to get to 3 today but probably not , trying to be back early. Started not to go cause we didn't get any rain , was hoping for a fresh clean slate but it's ok it's a beautiful foggy mornin, hope yall have a good one as well .
Looks like the hogs are still alive and well , lots of fresh ruts and saw three does too ! Hope to get out there again soon . Be safe guys
That's awesome. I looked but I couldn't find where it said you were located.
Ah. I just found it, by Eagle Mountain Lake!
How are the snakes down there? One place that I was looking at earlier was in Sweetwater and I noticed that it was the Rattlesnake roundup capital of the world! That's not gonna happen with this ol boy! Not a fan of snakes. I know they are everywhere down there but if you have to have a roundup for them, ha, I'm out. Is there a time of year when it is cool enough that the pig hunting is good but the snakes are gone for the season?
The problem with that is when its that cold deer seasons going on, thats not a problem. I would consider thanksgiving weekend , hogs and does on public land thats usually buck only ?I kill a dozen a year but not usually a problem when hunting. Me and my son do find em when bird hunting in September. Don't know when your free but hunting pressure makes them more nocturnal but in oct, and November I took one at 8:45 and one about 10:30 am , and saw the same group about the same time 3 or 4 times.I want to hunt them sooner but hogs don't have sweat glands and will go to water in the day this summer they'll have to. Lots of ponds find one in the shade and wait, also use the moon so make sure if he don't get one we can hunt em at night . I will have surgery again April 3 and will be forced not to work for 3 weeks- but will recover or die outdoors with my boots on. I do own snake boots but usually wear rubber boots , I wouldn't worry. Look up Lbj grasslands ,black creek lake , tadra point if you can , depending on when you come I would like to go to Olney but im hoping to hunt the hogs were I've been and some new units . Can't wait to show you what im talking about. Pm me your number so I can send you some pictures please ,-thanks

Guess you got too busy to reply or check out the site . Let me know if you still want to come hog hunting . Try to let me know ahead of time so I can have things set up for us to stay there , how many days will you be able to stay and when are you coming ?
Good morning sir. I apologize. I truly have been slammed. The company that I work for was bought out so there was a lot of uncertainty and on top of that, I bought a new (to me) house and have been slammed moving/painting/fixing all of these other things. I doubt I can make it down this year but was thinking/hoping of next winter or spring. I'd like to spend at least a weekend but maybe 3-4 days if I can pull it off. I'm not exactly sure how hunting seasons work down there as far as time frames, ours is pretty much over by December other than some special late season hunts. I don't want to interfere with any deer hunts.
Again, I'm sorry to leave you hanging. I think I bit off more than I can chew with the new house and honey do lists. I would definitely still love to walk around the woods with you sometime!! |
We have a million hogs on public land in Oklahoma. I will never understand why anyone would pay for a hog hunt. Buy a small game lic otc and pick a wma! kill as many as you want instead of being limited to one or two.

I work for odwc and could put you on hogs without a problem but the only problem is that I'm stationed on a wma as far from you as possible. I'm at red slough wma in extreme se ok. I have more hogs than a hog farm and most of the wmas within a hundred miles of me have a lot. The problem with staying close to Colorado is that the hog density in nw Oklahoma is very sparse due to lack of habitat and water. I have many guys come hunt red slough every winter and with great success. Most from out of state. Go online and check out red slough wma and see if you would be interested in coming and if so send me a pm and ill give you contact info. Ill get you on hogs. Only problem is that we have about another month of good hunting then it will be too hot.
Sounds like fun at Red Slough Wma ,we like the hot cause they have to come to the ponds to cool off . Don't feel bad the offers always good , I just wanted to send you some pictures . When you get ready we can go public but I plan on us staying in a small cabin one of my buddies owns and hunt on private land. Congrats on your new home and keep in touch

One of these days I'll make it to Ok or Texas to hunt hogs. Hunting hogs has been on my bucket list for some time now!
I have hunted in Pauls Valley OK for hogs and had a great time. Plenty of hogs for sure. Just came back from Galveston Tx on a cruise and stopped at some friends in Gainsville to lay up for the night. Was invited to go chase some hogs that night after being up since 0430 and a 7hr drive thru Houston and Dallas traffic at noon at 330 rush!!!!! I passed for I had to drive back next day to So. Il. Was sure to have been some fun. Will go back later this fall.

I would enjoy the opportunity
Blessed;
If the offer is good to others I would enjoy coming to Texas to hunt hogs. I have next couple weeks open. I’d like to hunt several days, with bow and I like to walk n stalk. I’ve never hunted hogs. I do hunt deer, elk, bear here in Colorado. I prefer to camp in my camper if possible. Shoot me a message if you are still looking for someone to hunt with. |
