Rattlesnake Roundup

Got another cool rattlesnake video done. It's getting that much closer to the derby! :happy0157:

That's a pile of rattlers.

Those are all babies compared to some of the ones down on the leases we used to hunt in the brush country! The biggest I ever got was a Diamondback that was 64" long with 13 rattles! The sucker had a girth bigger than an average guy's biceps.

That's a pile of them for sure. Would sure like to get in on something like that someday. The only thing we have in my neck of the woods are copperheads and the little prairie rattler.

That's some fine grub there. I always season mine with some salt, pepper, paprika (Spanish smoked sweet), a hint to a hammer of cayenne according to what I'm in the mood for, mix all that up and rub it into the meat after patting dry, let it set for about 20 to 30 minutes, season up some flour the same way, flour it up, let it set again for about 10 to 15 minutes till the flour on the meat has a "pasty" film on it and dredge again in the flour, throw it in a skillet of half butter (real not that margarine crap) and half peanut oil and brown it up. Even better than Rabbit in my opinion! And no, it doesn't taste like chicken!!!

These will be sold at the Mangum Rattlesnake Derby in Oklahoma this year. Right now we're just shy of 70 rattlers.

This one was caught yesterday.

Now that's the size I'm talking about!!! He'd give you a good dose if he nailed you!

The venom of the little ones is actually more toxic Topper. In some species, up to 10 times more gram for gram. The big ones have the advantage of longer fangs to set the venom deeper in muscle tissue. Personally, I wouldn't want to be hit by either! Been told it gets pretty nasty in the pain department.

Yep...that's one big boy. Sure would hate to have him nail me.
