Hey guys im thinking bout doing a gator hunt next year so im doing the research now, how exactly do you first get the gator i know once you hook him some how you harpoon him and then use a bang stick or gun or what evers legal to dispatch him but how do you actually get to that point. sorry if this is the wrong area to post this in.

The way its done in Louisiana, is #1 set out a baited hook and line overnight, check in the morning for results, the straight forward and simple way is to slowly bring the gator up to the surface with the line and kill on sight, now this seems simple, but things can get real hairy when this procedure goes wrong, (flying bone, bullets, boat, water, gator,). #2 IF in an area where open water shooting is allowed and all the conditions are right for shooting a gator off a line, this is not only difficult but you risk loosing your gator, tide, shot placement, location, equipment all plays into this going right. I personally don't care for bang sticks, takes the fun out of it for me, archery is a real experience when done right.

Rules and regulations vary from state to state, check with the fish and game dept. you're interested in, just for the record I caught the largest and longest alligator anywhere right now, he measured 14 feet and four inches, weighed in at the certified cat scale at 1,150lbs.! This is certified! I'll be posting pictures in the near future.
