hog hunting with a mosin nagant

hey everyone just wanted to post about my first time out with my mosin.
did some hog hunting down in Okeechobee florida and put 3 rounds into the pig before he went down or even made a noise.

got a video of it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHvvKZ-M4Xg

and here is the prize

Congratulations for the catch! I've never hunted with a Mosin Nagant, does it have a lot of recoil? Why did you choose this brand?

yeah it packs a lot of punch. its a 7.62 x54r which is basically a 308 with a slightly longer cartridge

i chose it for 2 reasons. first off its a military surplus gun so it was only 100 dollars. and secondly... the movie enemy at the gates :happy0157:

I love my Mosins and would love to take a hog with my M44.

I can't watch the video right now... but why did it take 3 shots?

congrats on the hog, i love my mosin and plan on taking it out this year. good thing bout them is the weight brings down the recoil a lot

not sure why it took 3 shots other than they just punched through like paper. 2 of the shots hit right behind the front legs in the lungs and the one that seemed to make it sequel and go down hit the stomach.

same thing seemed to be happening to everyone who used 308's or .270's. Arrows seemed to be the only things taking them down with the first shot. i was a bit surprised

Every hog I've shot with my 308 has gone down with one shot to the head.

yeah i was thinking i'd be aiming for the head next time unless it was an obvious trophy hog with decent tusks. still learning here :)

BTW Nice hog!!

Were you using FMJ ammo? I don't hunt with my Mosin very much but when I do I use Soft Point ammo and never had to chamber another round on a hog. Aim for the ear and they won't get up..
