Which Gun???
Thinkin about going hog hunting, and which gun should i take? Rifle? Shotgun? Pistol? Or even muzzleloader?
|
depends alot on the type of hunt youre going on and what terrain youll be in. I prefer a lightweight rifle personally for what I do. Tell me more about your hunting situation.
|
Well, its alot like your normal deer hunt. Im thinking rifle would be best, i could reach out far
|
Normal deer hunt could mean many things. Hunting from a stand? From the ground? In thick brush or in the open? The answer for me is always a flat shooting rifle with a bullet properly suited for pigs like the Accubond or partition though non premium bullets will work also. Its just what Im most confident in.

I would go with a rifle. Those little devils are tough S.O.B.s. Get you a flat shooting caliber with some pop to it so you don't have to track them far. They can get aggressive when wounded and cornered.

I like taking them out with my .50cal muzzleloader.

Semi auto rifles are used for the hog hunting like Browning BAR, Remington 74 (740, 742, 7400, and new 750) and the Benelli looks to be a real contender in the semi-auto market.

i know alot of ppl who like to use the marlin 30-30. me personally wont hunt a hog without a bow in my hand and a pistol on my hip lol ive seen ppl use anything from 22 lr. (which i HIGHLY do not reccomend) to a 338 federal. for rifle caliber i would try 25-06, 300 win mag, 30-06, 270, 7 mag just whatever suits you bud.

I use a Marlin 30-30, Nikon 3X9X50mm, with Remington Core-Lokt 170 grain.
I killed three in about 25 seconds on my last hunt here in Charleston,SC. Dam that was fun! |
