hog light
anyone interested in building you own hog light.
I am building one right now and could do a tutorial if people were interested. plastic ammo box------------- 6.99 12 v LED driving lights--------19.99 12v gell cell------------------24.00 12v solar panel---------------24.00 dusk dawn sensor---- I stold one out of a solar path yard light. mounting bracket to tree or t-post havent got there yet. sneek peak ![]() |
Build me one and I'll test your handy work...hurry need it in a couple weeks!:D
|
Looking good, Z...............
|
a tutorial would be great
|
Good idea.
|
well the photcell I took out of a solar light will not work. 12 volts is too much for that little circuit that takes a single aa battery. It smokes it as soon as I hook it up.
I cant seem to find a photo cell I need. Any ideas. |
what about a light that already has a sensor on it... like a motion dector light or security light ....like the ones for your house...will they run on 12 volts?????? just an idea
|
That's a great idea.
|
ya I didnt want to go with a motion sensor I wanted a dusk dawn sensor. I am realy having trouble finding a 12 volt one. I tried a 120 volt from lowes but it doesnt work. This is becoming a night mare. All I need is a 12 volt photocell to finish this.

how about a photocell out of a deer feeder it runs on 12 volts...maybe it will work

this is a different route but how about a motion sensor light plugged into an inverter and then the inverter hooked to a battery ....i have an inverter and thought about trying it
|
Ok a bit of asking around and I am back on track.
I will have to build a small circuit but it will only cost a couple of bucks. Whats cool is the solar panel itself will be the trigger, when its voltage drops,(night time) the lights will come on. consists of a couple of diodes and transistor. |
If you want to construct something, there are some good tips regarding photo switches at http://home.cogeco.ca/~rpaisley4/PhotoDetectors.html
|
Just finished it, I built a small circuit, the solar panel is what turns it off and on, way to cool only a couple of bucks in parts.
whats cool about this is if you have a 12 volt feeder and timer with sloar panel you could mount some light on the feeder and use the 12 volt battery for power and the solar panel will turn on the lights at dark. |

i don't have a place that I can do what I want to do. If I did I think I would place some solar lights at a feeder, this way they could get used to feeding with the light on. What would be wrong with that?
|
i jus use solar landscapin lights from home depot, i have 6 that light up bout 80 yrds

I want something that would stay on all night Another prototype to come. |

LED,s arent the brightest. But give just enough light. |
This is the control that i will use in my feeder light.

I have a set up very similar to yours using plastic tool box, 12v battery, solar panel, photocell (from elusivewildlife.com), and a super bright red led brake light (from autozone).
Light after testing lasts ATLEAST 45+ hours on one charge which allows for a few cloudy days. My only concerns are weatherproofing (I rubber siliconed mine from the inside) and how to post/install it near my feeder. How do you plan on posting it? |
