A question for you hog "Guides".
Hello there fellow pork producers. I have a question in regards to what a "guided" hunt for hogs is and how it is conducted from YOUR location. I realize that each area of the country has its own unique land and I wondered about the differences in style. I would also like to know what is considered a reasonable fee. Also what is you success rate. Are you high fence or free range.
I will start: I hunt north Florida around Mayo. I hunt a pine plantation and most are taken over feeders or walking the roads. We use anything from 600 Wetherby magnums (no joke, someone used one) to a McDonalds drinking straw. Just get them killed. The terain is not conducive to spot and stalk but more like spot and jump 10 feet in the air because you almost stepped on them. I would say we produce 1-3 piggies about 70% of the time. Cost is reasonable....free. You just have to be able to carry corn. :) |
hi. on our place, I as the "guide" do all the work as far as finding the hogs, getting travels routed figuired out. We hunt 1200 acres spot and stalk. Now we do keep feeders going but I only run 4 on 1200 acres. We do not sit at them feeders. through trail cams,I know when they are there, but we DO NOT sit at them and wait. We have no high fence. our neighboring property is 1700 acres of thick woods. that no one hunts. we use the feeders to try and draw them off that property. My success rate as far as seeing them in shooting range is 100%. Harvest rate this year is at 97%. I have people come out, mind you paying to hunt, that borrowed rifles, or just haven't sighted them in. And they miss. I've had guys come out and miss 5 -6 different hogs. Our hunts are only 1/2 day hunts. And for $200.00 your bag limit is 2. I also field dress, skin and quarter.

also, I almost forgot. Hunts are not my main income. I only do limited hunts per week. Usually 3-4 hunts. My hogs do not have any hunting pressure on them. I can usually catch them out in the open.

Hey snook, you mean all I have to do is tote corn??? I'm a little decrepid (old) and probably wouldn't make it very far with a 50lb bag of corn on my back. So what's you next option ;). This sounds like a heck of a deal:rock:. |
