We just got back last night from Oklahoma (Bowsafari) & my Daughter took this est. 900#+ Buffalo Cow with a 25 yd shot out of her 48# pound Compound & Aluminum Arrow tipped with a 3 Blade Rocky Mountain. The Buffalo crashed less than 60 yds. away from a double lung with the arrow ending up in the Heart.

I have a hunt scheduled near Mexia, TX for the end of next month at the 4 Pines Ranch. Hoping to get a chance at a big one.
The hog in the picture you posted above looks pretty big by my standards. It may not be Hogzilla, but it looks to be good sized. |

My daughter and I went on our first boar hunt at Ted Nuggent's place in MI. this past weekend. At first I was a little cool to the idea of the whole "canned" hunt thing, but now having done it, both me and my daughter had a blast.
She also scored her first bow kill after 4 years of deer hunting! She was thrilled, and I think it has helped relight the fire for bow hunting! Here a few pictures of what we took. Rick |
From the smiles on everyone's face it looks like y'all had a good time. Perhaps this was a good use of a 'canned' hunt. The main thing is that a good time was had by all.
The weather looks a little cold for this central Texas guy, but at least the meat won't spoil too quickly. |

On the other hand, while I generally want to stay indoors when it gets much below freezing, I am willing to go out hunting in the cold weather. My wife thinks I am certifiably insane. She's probably right, if not for that reason then there are probably others. :barmy: |
First hog of 2010 for me
For the last two years I've shot a hog in November, and then had zero luck through December, January, February, and most of March. Despite my efforts to break my winter jinx, this season turned out exactly the same. I made trips to my hunting area almost every week since the first of the year, but kept coming home empty-handed. Twice I saw a hog or two or three, but always on a neighbor's property where I don't have permission to hunt. Finally I managed to snag one, a sow that we estimated to weigh between 125-150 Lbs.
It was just past sundown on 19 March, the last official day of winter, when I spotted this hog and a couple of smaller ones through my binoculars across a pasture. The wind was favorable and fairly strong, so I was able to drive part way along the fence line behind a group of trees until I was maybe 200 yards from my target. I put a bush between us and began stalking her. She moved around so I shifted and placed a lone cow in front of me for a screen. As I approached, the cow got nervous and wandered off, so I simply crouched and crept slowly closer. It was now getting near the end of civil twilight, and with the wind still strong in my face I figured the hog would be unlikely to notice me. I got to within 70 yards and figured that was close enough. I knelt down, shot, and she went straight down. She kicked a couple of times and then simply stopped moving. I watched long enough to be certain that she wouldn't get up, then I walked back across the pasture and put my rifle up. I grabbed a pair of gloves, walked back to where the hog lay, and spent the next half-hour dragging her carcass to the fence where I'd parked the truck. Next time I should think about shooting one closer to a gate, maybe. The property owner and his 12-year old son came out and helped me hoist her into the back of the truck, and then we strung her up and set to work. I split the meat with the landowner, who is a long-time friend, so we each now have at least 30-40 Lbs. of hog meat in our freezers. I found the bullet. It's a Winchester 150 grain Power-Point. I was using my relatively new Browning A-Bolt II .308, and it certainly made an impression on the hog. |

I had forgotten about this little Spanish Goat I took with a recurve & wood arrow back in 1968. 6 of us Bowhunted a preserve that was being closed down & you could shoot anything for $40 or maybe $50. I think it was like 500 acres.
Anyway, the 6 of us hunted 2 days & took 2 goats & 2 Hogs. Wood Arrows & Recurves. Hogs were mean buggers-my brother shot one & it charged him & another one of our buddies who put him down on the 3rd hit. Another Hog chased one of the other guys until my brother shot him as they both went running by. It was crazy & of course, we were all in our 20s then so that made it crazier. |
In previous photo with Goat-check out the Vietnam Camo.

Great photos fellas!

Exotic Hunting Has Its Benefits
I've had the opportunity to hunt Russian Boar, Corsican Ram and Texas Dall Sheep with a bow. I'm pleased to say that I'm a perfect 3 for 3. I took the Russian Boar in 2004, the Corsican Ram in 2005 and the Texas Dall Ram in 2006. All of these were taken in East Tennessee. I have to say that Exotic Hunting is definitely a GREAT WAY to keep your archery skills sharpened. I've been fortunate to take several animals with a bow, but I will have to say that I'm more pleased with the Exotics than anything else.

Here is a Gold Series Catalina Ram I took in So. Texas in 2008 with a bow at 17yds, scored just an 1-3/8"ths short of the world record at that time!!!! It has a 38" tip to tip spread. I am 5'11" with a 46" chest to give you an idea of how wide the horns are.
Above are a few of the bucks I have taken here in Southern Il. The one above my right scaled at 243 pounds (Certified scale) field dressed and scored 151". It has a 21" neck just below the ears and 32" at the top of the brisket with 46" brisket. |
