Big bores are a blast (literally!) at close ranges!! I took a nice 150 lb boar last year with a 45-70 gov. 405 grn flat nose at less than 50 yards. Square hit behind the shoulder.
I thought for sure that this gun would make a hog cut a flip when hit, but feral hogs are a breed of their own. He ran about 70 yards into a gawd-awful briar thicket before he expired. That rifle is still my go-to hog gun. I lost a hog after shooting one with a .223 almost straight down from a treestand. Tought me a lesson about missing vitals from that angle. That probably would not have happened if I had been shooting the 45-70.
All that being said, that .450 or .458 you have, should make it a fun hunt!
