Default The REST of the Story

I mentioned in my other thread that I had been hunting that boar for several months, and he, like most of the hogs on/around my place, has been moving almost completely at night. I have been toying for a while about buying a night vision scope, but I just can't justify dropping $2K(+/-) just to hunt hogs.

I had a brain storm a few weeks ago about using some kind of light source over my corn pile. I found a solar powered motion sensing security light. I bought one and installed it (with a red lense) over my game camera to monitor the hogs reaction to the light, and they basically didn't react at all.

Last night, I sat in my ladder deer stand about 100 yards from the light. I actually heard the boar coming and was ready when the light came on, and you know the rest of the story. Dead pig.

I spent $100 on the security light versus a couple of grand for a decent night vision scope.

I used the same sort of set up when I had the lease in Avenger.
But I never used the red lens.

You can see the light in the tree to the left of the feeder pole.

As you can see in this pic the light is on and has no effect on the pigs at all.

I killed a lot of hogs under the light

The pigs in our area are educated about lights. A red lenses don't seem to bother them though.

Thanks.

Here is the one that I have, and I used some red cellofane from Hobby Lobby to cover the lense.

My goal with this was not to really light up the world but just to have enough light to see the pigs, and the 10 watt model works great for that.
