Sweet, a buddy had one in high school. It would ride in the back of his truck like a dog.:D His neighbors dogs ended up killing it[:@]

My sister has a pot bellied pig and it is gross. It screams when you try to pick it up. Smart little bugger though and does tricks, is house trained and probably smarter than most dogs. It lives to eat though and by the looks it will far exceed the 40 pound limit they said it would be when she bought it. Favorite treats are chips and any pizza crust you throw at it. They bought a large pizza, left it on the coffee table and went down to the store to rent a movie. When they cam back it was gone and part of the box was eaten too. Both my sister and her husband are large so that little piggy must feel like it is in HOG heaven.:D

Well you sure could feed it until it's about 30 lbs dressed and put it on the smoker.

That's a going joke. With LARGE parents like my sister and her husband that little piggy could turn into a BLT on a whim.:D

try bottle feeding him....they have kitten/puppy formula, I'm sure they have something for pigs, if not that should work...

Yeah, if you want the thing, bottle feed it. It wants to eat if it tries to suckle the dog.

I have raise many pigs, goats, and calves from a day old up til eating size, get some baby bottles and some livestock formula from the local feed and seed and feed it two to three times a day. Get some pig feed and leave it out when it gets hunger between bottle feedings it will slowly begin to feed.

Get some dog milk. You can get it from the vet for when dogs die giving birth. I'm sure if he's that hungry, he'll take what he can get. I'm intrigued, keep us informed.

Yeah!...........go to the Feed Store and buy Milk Replacer

mez 01-16-2009 07:32 AM

RE: Pet piggie

If he is eating a little of it he'll get the hang of it. Keep the milk replacer in with him all the time, change it every morning as it will sour over 24 hours.

Get a bag of pig starter pellets from the feed store and put them in with him as well. He should figure it our pretty quick.

seems to being doing good, he had diharia when I first got him but its turned normal now. He's eating baby rice cereal and oatmeal mixed with the milk mix from the feed store, he also ate some fresh corn cut off the cob. He's a trip, he seems to play with my dogs. Do you think he will be ok ifI release him when he gets to big.

RE: Pet piggie

He might make a nuisance of himself if you turn him loose. Pigs are very interesting animals, and too smart for their own good. A boar with no fear of dogs or humans will get into trouble, just a matter of time.

Cut his pin teeth and balls, it will keep him less aggressive. If he doesn't got to aggressive he will actually think he is a dog before long. I had a #175 domestic pig that wouldn't stay in the pin and would run around with the dog. He would sleep on the front porch with the dog and meet us at the car door when we got home, that is until we had a bar-b-que.

put some milk in a saucer and put it to its mouth. It may not want it at first but it will get the idea.

The pin teeth are what will become the tusk later. We would just break them off with a pair of pliers. They are very sharp and if you didn't cut them they would cut the mother as they begin to grow when they suckled.

The little booger is solid as a rock too. He is as hard as a canteloupe. We make jokes, like if you shot him you'd probably still have to track him. ;)

I have a buddy with 900 acres in east TX I visited in 2006. He took us to this see this crazy guy down the road that would catch the hogs in traps and fatten them up he said they would eat twice what a domestic would and never get as fat. They stay pretty hard and lean.

Get some baby pig starter at the feed store and try to start him on it as quick as you can. You may have to sprinkle some powdered milk on it to get him started eating it, but after that, he should do well on it. It will meet his dietary needs until he grows older.

I caught nine a few years back. They were only a day or two old when I caught them. I put hay in the floor of a stock trailer and rigged them up a little hut with a light. I had to start by bottle feeding them. Tractor Supply had some nipples that fit on coke bottles, and those worked really well. The first time day we tried feeding them, they were completely uncooperative. The next morning, they were waiting at the back of the trailer for somebody to feed them. They would squeal and climb and carry on until they got feed. After they got feed, they'd go in their little hut and take a nap.:D
