Do deer avoid areas with heavy hog populations??

Do deer avoid areas with heavy hog populations?? I have recently spent 2 weekends on a south arkansas management area in a spot that had more hog sign and sightings than I've ever seen. This area is supposed to have a high concentration of deer as well, but all I saw was one spike per weekend. This was in the low lands. In the upland area I spent the last afternoon and saw much more deer sign, no hog sign but didnt get to stay long enough to fully scout. I did however see 15 deer in less than 4 miles eating on the side of the road within minutes of close of shooting hours. This was right adjacent to the management area as well. I've spent a lot of time in that low land area, hoping to get a hog as well as deer. Did get a nice boar, but now need some venison. I'm just wondering if the hogs are keeping the deer out of the low land area. Any opinions?

Deer would prefer not to be around hogs. They prefer notto drink from ponds where hogs wallow. Have watched hogs chase deer off the game plots and away from ponds.

If there is enough habitat and food for both, then both co-exist fine. My 700+ acre hunt club is testamant to that. But given a food shortage, hogs WILL prevail against deer.

That being said, the creek bottoms where a majority of the hogs are killed on our club are not frequented by deer. I have hog stands and deer stands. Rarely do we see one where we hunt the other.

i often hunt on about 14,000 acres of closely controlledproperty. Much of that place is over-run with hogs. In the swamps and low lying thicketswhere the hogs live there are very few deer.

Thanks for input. I do see a lot of deer in lowlands where there are not any hogs, which is why I started there. Population of both is high. Acorns low. I'll try the high ground next time.

Thanks again
