Yep. Had the strangest thing happen this weekend. I went out deer hunting, and of course ran off several hogs. Shot this doe


She ran out of site, so i did my normal wait for 30 min. before I go get the arrow and head out tracking her. While I was waiting, I hear a crunching sound. Not something normal for this area. Almost like a dog chewing a bone. When I get out of my tree, recover my arrow and track down my deer, I find this.



This is the flip side of the deer in the first pic.. I flipped her over for the pic with the bow to make a better picture. I had seen a hog running from the area I found this deer, so i can only assume that hog ate the side of her face while I was waiting.

My understanding is that hogs are very opportunistic eaters and will eat nearly anything including other hogs. I don't have any definite experiences with this, but hear that you can bait a hog trap with hog remains and catch another hog

They are omnivores. They can and will eat just about anything organic and sometimes I swear they will just eat dirt.

Yep, you better believe it. Use this knowledge incase you catch yourself in a justified murder and need to get rid of a body! J/K!:D Really, they will eat everything.

All joking aside, isn't this one of "organized crimes"favored methods for diposing of bodies? In a roundabout way i bet Jimmie Hoffa made it inside some Jimmie Dean sausage.

Well, all joking aside, it sure is. I know this came up in a criminology lecture class in college. I remember the professor claiming that this was a very common way that Outlaw Motocycle Gangs dispose of bodies. I'm pretty sure he was just anti-biker though. "They" claim pigs will eat every part of the human body including hair, teeth and bone.

Read a thread on a TX hog hunters forum a year ago where a guy shot a hog and left a game cam to see what ate on it. The usual at first bussards, coyotes, then a group of hogs came in and ran the other critters of and had there fill.

What I do know is that I saw a group of hungry hogs in a lot devour a snake in about 30 seconds. We caught a Garder snake at the farm and the farmer said, " Watch this!" He threw that snake in the pen and them hogs went knucking futs! That snake was gone in seconds.

Hey, back in the 1970's I had 2 pig pens with a Sow and Boar in each of them. I also had 4 female Nubian goats and 1 Male that could roam around the pens. Well, one day the male Nubian decide he wanted some of the hogs food and got into the pen with the largest hogs..............Hey, they ate that Sucker!:) I paid $500 for that Stupid Sucker, but man he never shot blanks and produced twins most of the time........

They will eat anything, like Reb said, they will kill too. I've seen a lot of reports from around the country that they are killing smaller livestock.

There is evidence that deer will eat dead critters as well.......hard to believe, but the source was a reliable deer rancher and a doctor studying the transfer of TB.

A couple years ago I helped a buddy skin and take the meat off his deer. I asked him whathe does with the bones and hide, he told me he feeds them to the pigs. He just threw the hide and bones in thepen and within five minutes, ten pigs ate everything, nothing was left. It made the hair onthe back of my neck stand up.

When I was a kid on the farm, my brother and I would shoot groundhogs and throw them in to the (domestic) hog pen. They would go bananas, fighting each other and tearing the groundhogs to shreads in a matter of minutes.

We dump the guts out in the back of our property and the hogs will come in later and clean them up. They are scavengers and will eat anything they find.

I have actually used deer carcasses in the past to attract hogs.....I think it depends on the hogs in the area and their food sourcesas Ihave had this work in one area and not work in others....

Here in Hawaii, if you smell a rotting carcass, chances are the feral Pigs will already have found it. If there is still anything left for them to eat they will be back to feed on it . All you have to do is wait for them to come. As for me, I don't do this because of 2 things:

1. The smell of the rotting carcass is what the pigs smell like that are feeding on it!

2. The idea that they are eating rotting meat rather then Ferns and Guavas, kind of rubs me the wrong way!

2 years ago I had shot a buck in the evening and tracked for about 4 hours. The swamp, well not much water then, was so thick I couldnt follow the blood real well and I lost it several times. So next morning as I am pulling in the field which the swamp is buzzards jump on the top of the trees. Now I took a 30-30 but really wasnt wild about shooting. When I got to the open spot he had died where the buzzards were in the baove trees, there was a 300#+ boar chomping on the body. Once I saw him he looked up with blood all over his face. Like something you see in the movies and he ran off. I decided not to shoot because a bigger buck was on the property and wasnt wild about ruining the rest of deer season.

We'veseen them start eating on a freshly killed deer and catch, kill, and eat lambs. When they smell blood they get really agitated, especially after dark. Note to self... if you are going in to help trail wounded hog after butchering others and have fresh blood on your boots, the snorting and blowing in the dark may be sounding 'charge' instead of 'retreat'. Might wanna pack a lead slinger.

That wasn't very nice Rev!! :) :) Hogs love Deer, even better when they start to stink!! They will even eat their young!!
