Remington Model 788 .243 WIN

I recently aquired a beautiful Remington Model 788 chambered in .243 WIN.with aWeaver scope. This gun has only been shot a few times. I have never deer hunted in my life and at age 36, have decided to give it a try. Is this rifle adequate? Also, would this gun bode well on a pig hunt?

Thanks, Mike!

Good simple to the point answer to the question, and I will second it.

Will work well for both deer and pig hunting. Have fun, and good luck!

my wife and I both shoot 243 for deer and hogs.they work great. I use only Wenchester ammo 100 gr. PSP never had a problem.
up until last year I have only lost one deer and no hogs, the one deer I lost was my fault, bad hit on me.
last year I lost one deer that I under shot.I put my right eye out in Oct. and had to learn to shoot left handed.that was a chore.all my shots were to low for some reason.have corrected that now.

my wife has only lost one deer, that was a bad hit on her part also.she has not lost any hogs.

the two of us have taken several 100 deer over the years.so three deer is not bad in my opinion.

take good shots that you feel that you can hit and go for it.

Considering that is the only word he knows, not a bad answer.

Well, he does know other words, but he gets confused using them.:D

Just shoot 100 grain slugs and remember shot placement and 243 will do fine.Excuse Rev and Kanga they haven't bonded in awhile.:D

That's the exact rifle my Dad gave me when I was 11. At 12, I took a thick-bodied 10 point Whitetail with it.

I took it out for my 1st hog trip this year, but it was in line behind my '06. The latter took 2 pigs on the last evening, so the .243 didn't get to draw any swine blood.

Still, I'd have no reservations about it.
