Another one down ( pic)

Yesterday I got off work early and decided to do some hunting. I figured out where the hogs are laying up during the day. So I made I stalk into there area. It was a little scary to say the least, I walked dab nab straight in to the middle of them, right into there living room. I had hogs grunting all around me and had movement everywhere, this one stood up and made a couple of charges at me, I had no side arm and was only carrying my single shot .22 hornet. I finaly managed to get a clear shot at her through some real thick stuff, it was a 25 yd shot and hit her right below the eye, I had a little pig fever and wasa little scared to, it was a free standing shot, soI was a tad off but the bullet went on to hit the base of the skull and neck. She went straight own. (45gr. HP) I walked up to her and had 2 small ones come in and buck up to me, I just yelled and stomped and they just ran off.
It was a hell of a job getting her out and across the stream to an area I could pick her up with he tractor.
This was here in San Antonio Tx. Right on the outskirts of town. These areas had no hogs 20 years ago. They are everywhere now, showing up in neigborhoods.
I am doing my part at least. LOL. Put some on the pit last night and had a few beverages, she's an eater, really good tasting, no wild taste at all.
I'm 5'9" and 170 lbs we figured her to be a little over 200
I need to get a scale

Don't tell him his gun is too small! He kills stuff with that Hornet,he rode a retro bike and folks said it wouldn't run either...and he pulled that off too!Your running drag bikes now aren't you ZP?Impressive hog you got hanging there!;)

The Hornet has filled my freezer many times, and will continue to do so.

How is it a bad choice the pig is dead could a high power cannon kill it any deader[8D]:)

maglite 06-27-2008 08:54 PM

RE: Another one down ( pic)

I know its dead but the chances of it wounding that hog are 10x's greater than if you were to use a higher caliber! Dont get pissy It was just an observation. A 22 hornet dosent have much behind it for a hog!!

You are right maglite the little Hornet is rodent caliber it's just he shoots it so much he is picky about his shots and placement.I know people that take their kids out deer hunting with one for their first deer hunt...now thats a bad idea!Hogs and varmints is more acceptable if your gonna hunt with one.

Most of the people _itching about how we hunt or what we use, dont' know squat about hunting!!!
There was a video going round last year of a hog being taken with an air rifle. Now it wasn't your run of the mill Daisy, but it took one shot behind the ear and the porker went down. They may be a little extreme, but then again I've seen hogs taken with a sharp stick (my favorite way).

BTW Rloving, just get ready to come down at least once a month to my lake house when it cools off, we'll get a changce to stick a few with a "sharp stick." I don't know about inviting Kanga Kong there, I think he's taken to being "Gay", he started designing long bows.:D

My brother-in-law is the sporting goods manager at a walmart in alabama. They can't keep the Marlin .17 hmr rifles in stock, best selling hog rifle in town.

I use to be of the opinion that arrows wouldn't humanly take game! The Hornet and the arrow both work well if the shot is a good one.We should let Kanga tag along if he takes shower! After all he is my hero, mentor, idol,COACH!I want to see him jump on a hog and pull some special ed. or special forces moves...whichever he was in.:DAfter all Chuck Norris has poster of him on the wall...Russ is that good...just ask him!:)

My buddy's son took a free ranging 300 lb'er the other day with one shot from an open sight 22lr.
The hornet is a lot more than 22lr.
45gr Hollow point at 2700 fps does some nasty damage.
This was a neck shot spike using the hornet and this load, check out the exit wound on the neck.
aint nothing wrong with a bullet coming apart, leaves lots of damage
