Which would you choose? and why

Which one would you hunt for the excitement??? american buffalo russian boar razorback boar exotic rams[/align] |
RE: Which would you choose? and why
Most bison hunts are on ranches so they're not too wary. If you'd be lucky enough to draw a free range tag, you'd have your work cut out for you. Either way when one topples over, you then have a LOT of meat to work up. European "russian" boar are very clever and make good sport to hunt. If you want all the excitement you can get, hunt themwith dogs and a knife! Feral hogs "razorbacks" can usually be drawn to bait so they're just a great way to fill up the freezer. Most exotic rams are like domestic sheep and feed all day so finding a herd and plugging oneis usually not a big deal. An exception would be free ranging Aoudad which are very wary and liketo live in rough country. That would be a good hunt though I've not heard of anyone claiming to enjoy the meat. That's my two cents worth.

RE: Which would you choose? and why
Neither the Buffalo or Ram hunts interest me the way boar hunting does. But having to choose between Razorbacks or Russians, I'd say the Razorback. Never had an opportunity at one yet and I understand they can be just as tenacious as a Russian when cornered. And likewise as for hunting them with dogs and a knife, that is just a pure adrenaline rush.

Never got interested in hunting buffalo and rams. Will go elk hunting one of these days. Hunting hogs isin my blood. Got 19 hogs last year: Mostwere killed with a muzzleloader:A few of themhaddomestic hog blood, some of themwere European or Russian boars, even killed acouple razorbacks.

RE: Which would you choose? and why
I would have to go with the hogs. A single buffalo hunt might be more exciting than a single hog hunt, but I am not limited to a single hog hunt, and I do not believe that a single buffalo hunt would equal the excitement from the 200 or so hogs I kill each year. As far as the difference between the russians and razorbacks, I prefer hunting hogs with a strong russian or euroasian influence to hunting straight ferals, but I can't afford to go oversees to hunt the straight russians, so I guess I'll settle for the russian influenced ferals.

RE: Which would you choose? and why
I went on my first Russian boar hunt this weekend, and can say that it was exciting! Stalking and shooting them with a bow off the ground was a challenge to say the least. I swear they can see you blink. They were impossible to get in range, or draw on, and when they decide they want to get past you, thay dont care if your there or not, they will run right over you if your in the way. But after a couple of days of working our butts off, final score Bow hunters=3 Hogs=0

RE: Which would you choose? and why
Ive got all the hog hunting I would ever want. My land is eat up with them. Id go for the buffalo, simply for the meat. I love buffalo meat.
Ive only shot Audads, as far as sheep go, and the meat was no good. If all Rams taste like the Audadas we have here in Texas, you can keep them all. |
RE: Which would you choose? and why
I've been fortunate to have Bowhunted lots of Biggame & all that was mentioned. Exotics, Rams, Buffalo & hogs.
I make a couple (or more) off season hunts to Texas or Oklahoma for the hogs as we do not have them in the midwest. I Bowhunt them over feeders mostly with a hound hunt every now & then. I "MUST SAY" the hound Bowhunt is always exciting & WILD. The hog is Pis-ed & the hounds just make him want to rip everyone & thing in sight apart. You sometimes find out how fast YOU can go up a tree. I will be hunting them in Oklahoma in June over feeders & hoping to set up a hound/hog Bowhunt for my son & one Daughter this coming March. ![]() |
RE: Which would you choose? and why
Bison, not much of a decision IMO.
boars vs. bison? bison. exotic rams vs. bison? bison. less you're hunting exotics in their home habitat......I have little interest in an aoudad/ mouflon etc......plus they're pretty ugly. so really I only think 1 of the 4 has any interest. But as was stated earlier, I don't really want to do a ranch hunt....it would be fun to take a buffalo regardless, but I'd like to take one naturally, there are some places you can hunt free ranging, for a decent price, but ya most are ranches.... |
RE: Which would you choose? and why
Is there any wild american buffalo? Ive never seen any except on a reserve or a ranch? Free range ranch, but still a 10s of thousands of achers, fenced ranch.

RE: Which would you choose? and why
burn yes they are still free ranging buffalo in Utah and I believe parts of Canada - getting one of those tags for Utah is like winning the lottery though
My choice would be buffalo with a Bow - will do it soon in the next few years - I have taken my share of pigs and rams do not interest me too much |
RE: Which would you choose? and why
I would have chosen hog had I not just read the detailed story posted on the "buffalo hunts" post. NOW I AM HOOKED AND CHECKING PRICES IN MY AREA!!!!

RE: Which would you choose? and why
I would love to put my two dogs on a hog if at all possible, and end the hunt with a knife. Ending a huntwith your hands has to be the most unreal experienceI could imagine. Sitting back and killing from a distance is one thing, but walking up and warming theknife with the inside ofa hog seems like it would be a whole new game. One of these days..... :)
