Hog Hunting Nightmare!!!!!

This really seems to be the trend in Texas, REALLY BAD HOG HUNTING GUIDES!!!
I know there are some good ones but C R Outfitters isnt one of them..They are out of college station, Texas.. He sells hunts on ebay, Unlimited Hogs and Predators, He told me that we would be only ones in camp since we were hunting 5 days Monday thru Friday..There were 10 hunters in camp, 8 never saw a hog, 2 did and one killed a 40#er, Horrible camp, and only 2 meals, one was under cooked chicken and one was a pancake on a stick, no lodge..Campers, they werent to bad..It was a nightmare, he made $5000.00 that week for one 40# hog, expensive pork..pic of camp

Wow, I would have asked for my money back. Before I ever go on a paid hunt I want to know what my chances are of seeing an animal. Also, I ask if they have feeders I will be hunting over,do they have blinds, stands etc... I also look at the pics of the animals they have recently hunted and ask for previous hunters contact info to see what they liked and didn't.

I hate to see anyone get burned on a deal like this. I have heard good things about this place http://www.doubledoubleranch.com/

I have filed a complaint with the texas attorney generals office and states attorney, the morning we left the owner and guide were gone..Oh he had a good talk, lots of feeders and seeing tons of hogs is what he told us, he said everyone leaves with at least 3 hogs and lots of varmints..He had pics of lots of hogs, but when we got there the owner and guides were the one in the pics, we talked to the guy they lease there ground from and he said the first 2 years they shot lots of hogs, the Owner..Not the hunters..I only saw one set of tracks in 5 days and it was after the 3 in rain they got..He would leave us in the stands 4-8 hours longer then we wanted, he left 2 of us all night, I was p_ssed off and he knew it so he left only seen him twice the whole time..It was BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had better luck than that hunting by myself on Public Lands in California (only 5% of hogs taken in California are killed on Public lands) so I can imagine howunhappy you must be with those kind of results on what was advertised as a guided hunt on private lands. The California DFG keeps a list of approved guides and their specialties that is available on the DFGwebsite. I do not know how thoroughly the State checks the guides'credentials or what kind of standards they use but it probably offers some protection against the absolutely miserable guide it sounds like you got stuck with. You might want to check with the Texas DFG and see if they also keep a list of approved guides and file a complaint with them if they do.

Sorry to hear that. Personally, there aint a hog on this planet Id pay a red cent to hunt. But then agian, they are a problem on my land. can shoot them any time I want and only pay gas money.

burniegoeasily 03-26-2008 10:57 AM

RE: Hog Hunting Nightmare!!!!!

Also, dont pay to hunt hogs in Texas, just go to the public land. You can walk the Brazos river here and shoot all you want. Every now and then, ill go to the river and walk with my bow, just to get out. Ive shot a lot of hogs that way. Not even trying. Check out all the corp of engineer land. Its all over Texas, and is free hunting, you just got to walk it. Cant take a vehicle on it.

RE: Hog Hunting Nightmare!!!!!

I work as a guide at Ranger Creek Ranch. To me these pictures and the description of the hunt sounds and looks alot like deer hunters on their own hunting lease. They try to do some hunts to make money to pay for their own hunting. They are in it for themselves and not for the customer. Try researching on the internet and you will find a much better hunting situation.

Sorry to hear about that, but I am glad you posted. My father in law wants to come down to hunt hogs here in Texas and he had called these guys. Needless to say they are OFF the list now. I bought a public lands permit for Texas this year, I wonder what area you reference walking along the Brazos. Sorry, I have only lived in Texas a couple of years.

Are you close to College Station?

Opel, you got took. I lived in College station for three years, there are hogs everywhere in the surrounding area. We hunted them every weekend and never came home empty handed. I've never heard of this particular outfitter and if there was a landowner he was leasing from would echo the comments that it is someone trying to pay for their deer lease.

RE: Hog Hunting Nightmare!!!!!

He paid for the lease 3 times over just that week, he leases it for 1500.00.. And he says he runs deer hunters and we saw 3 does around and thats all.. They were in it for the money, NO doubt about it..[:@][:@][:@][:@]

I take all of my hogs on public land in California...we have had a pretty good success rate doing so...lots of scouting has paid off. (Los Padres NF.)

I would threaten legal action if you don't get a refund. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, and you need to be up in their faces. I would make it my job to ruin their business if they refused a refund. I would contact ebay, texas better business bureau, get on all the forums etc..

RE: Hog Hunting Nightmare!!!!!

Just a thought...I sell alot of stuff on EBay...Did you pay for this hunt thru PayPal...if you did go to Paypal and file a complaint and try to get your money back that way, they insure the sale to $2000. If they are not providing to you what they are auctioning off on Ebay, then that would be the way to go...I have got my money back on EBay issues before...

RE: Hog Hunting Nightmare!!!!!

There is no doubt that this hunt was a bad experience, and several have made the statement that the "outfitter" was on in it for the money. Why else would he be in the business if not to make money?

I know for a fact that there are ALOT of hogs in the Bryan/College Station area. One of my good friends from high school and his family live in the area and are overrun with them, but hogs on their place are like hogs on my place and are nomadic. I may see hogs or hog signs every day for a month, and then I might go a month and not see any. Unless this place has a really good fence to keep the hogs on the place, all that was had by the original poster was bad luck. That is why it is called hunting and not shooting.

RE: Hog Hunting Nightmare!!!!!

IMHO, if you have 8 hunters on the property for a week and only one guy gets to shoot at a baby hog that is a joke. I'm not saying everyone should get to bag a hog, but at least be able to see some. If you are going to make people pay to hunt your property you better have lots of animals.

That double double ranch I posted up earlier said they guarantee you will get a shot at a hog or they will give you your money back. They obviously will not guarantee a kill since it is up to you to actually make the shot. In short, if I am paying money I want a guarantee that I will see somethng. If they can't guarantee me that why not hunt public land??? I mean, what are you paying for????

No, people should do research be for going and paying to hunt a place. I feel bad the guy got took but thats why you don't go hunt somewhere you know nothing about. JMO. People run scams everyday, whether it be credit card fraud or selling a hunt on ebay.

We did some research and it proved not to be full proof either.. I can sell you a deer hunt in ILL and show you pics of big bucks my buddies have killed and say that they were taken on my place, how do you know if I an lying??? Give you phone numbers to buddies in Texas, florida, alabama and have them tell you it is great..IT CAN ALL BE SCAMMED, I am proof, I got scammed!!!We called 2 people he gave us numbers too, they said it was great and now they wont answer there phones, funny aint it!!!!
I did outfit in ILL in the early 90's, I just like to hunt more!!! But I know what an outfitter goes through, you have good hunters and bad ones!!! But I had deer on my property and had good success..
It is a Life Lesson..One lesson learned 2,000 more to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good Hunting to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!

this type of outfitter is worldwide, not a TEXAS thing

RE: Hog Hunting Nightmare!!!!!

There are lots of outfitters in ILL just like that, lie about how much ground they have, we call it multipliers syndrome, they multipy how much ground they have by 2 to 4 times what they actually have.. Percentage of kills..It is Crazy, Buyer Beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

burniegoeasily 03-28-2008 09:21 AM

RE: Hog Hunting Nightmare!!!!!

I tell you one of the biggest problems with the outfitters around here, besides the fact they are outfitters, they w h o r e out the land and over hunt it. They will ruin an area and simply move on. I had an outfitter lease out some land next to mine, they ruined it for turkey and deer. It took about 10 years for the deer and turkey to rebound. They would take out clients every day of the season and kill anything moving. And since my land was next to this land, the same deer and turkey the frequent my land, frequented theirs. As for hogs, they simply push them off to other areas with less pressure. I really don’t care for the outfitters and their practice of ruining a stretch of land and move on afterwards. And I have seen very few, actually I’ve never seen an outfitter use land properly. Not to sound like sour grapes, but in my little town, there are 4 different outfitters. Mainly for geese. they have pushed all the geese from this area. I even told one of the guys who own one of the outfitters that he was going to do it. He told me, then it will be time to break that lease and lease up some new land. He was trying to get me to guide for him. I refused. He also stages animals for people to hunt. He does it with pheasant. He stuns the pheasant and places them in set locations. Take out the hunters for about an hour then leads them to the staged birds. Its sickening. Like I said, nothing more than hunting pimps.

Sorry for the rant, and appoligize to those outfitters who do it right. I just feel you guys are far and few between.

muslmutt 04-06-2008 06:50 AM

RE: Hog Hunting Nightmare!!!!!

Yep. We got some PIMPS around here too. They are doing staged hog hunts. They trap them elsewhere and then bring them back to their hog fenced area. The client thinks he is on hundreds of acres. Really it is about 80. Yep, everybody gets a hog there, in about an hour, then they get sent home before they figure out they are hunting in the hog pen. Another place uses the shape of the land to funnel the hogs to the client. They just put the client in a stand then go up the draw a few hundred yards and open the hog trap.

If I were paying for a hunt, I'd much rather go on a shoot like this and get some meat rather than getting ripped off. I wouldnt call it a hunt but a meat shoot at best, hell thats 10 times better than going to the store and buying some pork.
