RE: 22.s for hogs
A .22 is not a hog rifle. However, one of the places i often huntis restricted: You canuse a shotgun with smallshot or a .22 rimfire. Have killedseveral hogs with a Ruger 10/.22 there. Use solid point high velocity loads and try to put the bullet in the ear, between the eyes or on a line between the ear and the eye.As long as the hog is still kicking, keep shooting it in the head. All my hog kills with a .22 have been at 35 yards or less.

RE: 22.s for hogs
A .22lr will kill a hog, but it wouldn't be something I'd take hog hunting. The last time I shot a pig with a .22lr was when I was checking traps and happened across an unhappy sow with a bunch of little piglets. I didn't have a lot of options.

RE: 22.s for hogs
.22s have probably killed more hogs than any other caliber, most being farm pigs for butchering, shotat point blank range. That's all we used years ago to not waste any meat. The head was used in the pudding pot and the womengot mad if you ruined all that head meat.Bullet placement is as falcon said, brain them and they'll drop in their tracks.

RE: 22.s for hogs
I agree that they definately will, never done it myself, but hit it in the brain and itll go down. Also, in SC hogs can be hunted year round with no bag limit but if you hunt them on public land you have to use a weapon which is allowed for whatever season is open at the time, ex deer season=deer rifle or arrow with broadhead, small game season=22 or smaller or arrow with small game head, so if the DNR is regulating it to be a legal means of taking the animal then it should be more than capable of doing it.

RE: 22.s for hogs
Hey, I saw a video of a man killing a 200 pound hog with an air rifle.. Did anyone else see that video. I thought someone posted on here.
Yes, you can kill a hog with a 22lr. However this is not recommend for your safety. :DAnd trust me, you can't out run a pig. |
