Shotgun question

I want to hunt hogs with my Mossberg 500 and use slugs in it. I have never shot slugs threw it and it has a smooth bore. I was wondering if I should buy a rifled barrel for it or will it be fine to shoot them.

You can shoot slugs through it with a improved cylinder choke tube. But, I'd try and find a true slug barrel though, either smooth of rifled barrel. I think it be better to have either the rifle sites or a scope. Thebarrel that you have now, is it a field barrel with bead sights?

For close shots the smoothbore will be fine, myself I would go with the rifled barrel that way you can strech it out a little further.

as long as it is a smooth bore it should shoot foster style slugs just fine. If you really want to get all the accuracy you can get out of it you might want to consider a rifled barrel so you can shoot sabot slugs. The new Remington slugs have a plastic tip and look pretty nasty. Either way i would think about a scope on it to really be able to pick a spot on those hogs, they are pretty tough (so i hear)

I use a rifled barrel with a low power scope. Works well in the Northeast where you shot deers at 80 yds average.

Thanks for all the replys, I have a red dot scope that I think will work real good.
