Hi Bobfm
You will have to get yourself a public permit ($48 I think). This is the first year I got one and I have yet to use it. Others may be able to tell you more, I am thinking you either put in for draws on some animals, or others you show up in the morning and if room is available you get in.

Go to the Texas Parks and Wildlife website, there are several areas around the state you can hunt.. depends on where you live. The Matador WMA near Childress TX is a good one, but there are lots of other WMA's to hunt around Houston, College Station, in East Texas.
