Use a muzzleloader.

RE: What to use on my hunt?
I just used a 12gauge at 60 yrds and it worked fine, but I already had the gun. Cheap and reliable. But there are definetly better choices

RE: What to use on my hunt?
Use whatever will kill it. I prefer a bow, but for hogs anything goes.

RE: What to use on my hunt?
Use what ever you want. Just consider the distance you will be shooting.

RE: What to use on my hunt?
Use the one you have the most confidence in. Any of those will kill a hog if you put the bullit where it is supposed to go.

RE: What to use on my hunt?
Not the .204 or the .223 Ackley unless you can absolutely put it in the brain. Otherwise, any of the rest is more than enough gun to do the job.

RE: What to use on my hunt?
Use the one you shoot the best in the field with, not off the bench with.

RE: What to use on my hunt?
Kind of depends on what size the hog is and how far you are shooting, location?
I prefer my AR 15 in .223 for quick head shots for anything up to 150-170lb. If you are going after bigger hog or Russians I would say the 300 out of those for killzone shots. My personal favorite for night hunting short range is 45/70 and for longer range day hunts is 25-06. |
The advantage I find most interesting is that you can use two different adjustable chokes in your over-under. Chokes in the end of the barrel determine how quickly the shot spreads out. So, if you're shooting at a bird that's far away, you will need a tight choke to get enough shot in the bird to bring it down. If you're shooting at one that's closer, you want your shot to spread out enough that it's easier to hit. Do you see where I'm going? You can shoot at a bird with one barrel that has a wider choke, then if you don't hit it and it flies away from you, you have an even better chance following it up with the other barrel if it has a tight choke.
