30-30 vs Boar
I killed this 250 lb boar this evening trying escape my headlight beams after rooting in one of my pastures. I have been trying to see him for over a week, and I made an unexpected (to him) trip to the pasture tonight. When the headlights hit him he started running for the woods, but he was about 30 yards short when he lost his mind. BOOM!!! FLOP!!!
I was shooting my straight gripped 336SS and Hornady LeverEvolutions, and for the quartering away running shot, I aimed at the tip of his snout at ear level. I hit him slightly behind and slightly under the left ear. The shot was about 150 yards. I love Zeiss optics for low light situations and had no problem seeing him even as he was moving out of my headlights. ![]() ![]() |

Head shot? Makes me think you didn't want to track him through the brush in the dark.:D

Nice shot...and nice rifle, too. Love those straight-stocked Marlins! What sort of scope you got there?

retrieverman, I can't remember if I posted when you posted this on MO but nice job and nice supper. I kinda wish I still had my 336SS but I think I did good with my guide gun trade. I'll get another next year maybe. I just hope Marlin takes a hint and starts offering 336 straigh grips in the near future to save me the trouble.
