Starting Hogs

This may sound like a dumb idea but I own about 60 acres of wooded land in Southwest Virginia. Hogs are few in this area but there are 2-3 killed each year within 50 miles of me. I raise two hogs a year on my farm for meat but have thought aboutkeepinga litter for about six months and then turning them out with the sow just to see if I can get them started on my place. I have automatic feeders so they won't see man daily and should stay wild. We are never on the property except for hunting season. Will they take or do you think they will be an easy meal for predators?

Don't do it, they'll destroy your land and your neighbors will hate them too.

Not a good idea and quite possibly illegal.

I agree, you do not want to do that. They will tear up a lot of land. Plus, you might let six go, but the multiply like rabbits.

I thought about doing this too until I realized how destructive they are. Plus, in the state of Oklahoma it is illegal to turn and hogs loose. If you want to hunt hogs go to a ranch that has them. There is a reason why people want them taken off their land.

Its a selfish way to get hog hunting going but I knew some guys in Arkansas who bred 2 boars and 8 sows and kept them until all the sows were pregnant then "somehow they got under the fence and escaped " and within a year there were pigs everywhere !

You don't want them all over your property. Come to Florida and kill a few. They will eat baby turkeys, probably even new born fawns. Ranchers see big hogs following around pregnant cows to eat the newborns cows. DEATH to HOGS!
