RE: Female hogs?
Just fill the bucket with water and add 1 or 2 tablespoons of Rid-X. Then cover with a garbage bag. The bacteria will eat the stuff in just a few weeks. Take the head out rinse off the leftover chunks and soak it on hydrogen peroxide for 2-3 days. Take it out and let it dry.
It really helps to skin the head before doing this. |
RE: Female hogs?
will the ridx eat away at the skull itself ?

RE: Female hogs?
I don't think it does.[&:] This is how a local taxidermist does his euro mounts. I can't remember exactly how long he leaves them in the bucket but it's at least a month. It's very stinky which is why he uses the garbage bag, to contain some of the smell. The teeth will get loose and some of them might fall out, but you can glue them back in place after the peroxide soak. However, the peroxide WILL eat away at the skull, which is why he only soaks for a couple of days. I soaked a deer skull in peroxide for about 2 weeks trying to get rid a stain where one side of its antlers had broken off right at the skull. I thinkthe bonewas actually bruised. Anyway, everyday I'd go pull the skull out to see if the stain was gone, and it wasn't. I noticed that it was getting extremely thin and brittleso I just pulled it out anyway. The next day it was dry and the stained had dried white. I mean just as white as the rest of it. Now I know that 2-3 days is plenty of time and thats just with the cheap old wallyworld peroxide.
Good luck with it! |
