Who is a hot weather hunter (summer)
I always put up the bow, other than practice, during the summer. I know some who hunt hogs year around. When it gets hot, I just give up on the porkers and go fishing. For those of you who hunt in the summer, what are some of your tactics.

RE: Who is a hot weather hunter (summer)
We hunt them at night. They seem to come out around midnight to 3 in the morning.

RE: Who is a hot weather hunter (summer)
Ihunt them at the local bars. oops wrong kind of pig
Too many snakes and bugs for me to hunt in the summer |
RE: Who is a hot weather hunter (summer)
I had a lot of luck last summer hunting them in the mornings moving to and from water holes. I went out every weekend in June and July, and I didn't make a day either month that I didn't kill a hog. The hunting was very, very good. Also shot some when I was out after coyotes. I hunted them from 11am -2 pm, when it was hot enough the skeeters weren't very active.

We hunt them at night in the summer with dogs. Too hot for the dogs in the daytime. We usually have the best luck starting about 3 am and hunting until the sun comes up.

I hunt year round. I'll sit at a feeder anytime of year although sitting a trail leading to water is something I will do as well.

RE: Who is a hot weather hunter (summer)
If they can take the weather, i can too :)

RE: Who is a hot weather hunter (summer)
i hunt hogs year around and prefer to hunt in the summer. Just watch the water holes. A good salt lick close to a water holeworksespecially wellin an area where there is little domestic livestock (and no salt).

RE: Who is a hot weather hunter (summer)
Me, I HAVE to hunt hogs in summer.
I teach school for a living and my school teaching buddy and I have been going to Florida in July because that is our only choice. We have done well in the pan-handle of Florida sitting in Treestands, mornings and evenings overlooking feeders. This August, we will be in south-west Texas hunting rams and hogs. Kev |
RE: Who is a hot weather hunter (summer)
My bud and I usually get into the woods early afternoon and wait for things to settle. We try to be near well established pig trails for their pre-dusk movements. In some areas you canalmost set your watch to when you'll hear the first squeals and grunts.
Since scent discipline is hard to maintain in a tropical forest/jungle, the wind is key. We check itA LOT, and often we come out of the woods withtalcum powder or corn starch sprinkled on hour boots fromour "whiffer" bottles. |
RE: Who is a hot weather hunter (summer)
winter for us is anything less than 80 degrees

When is it not summer here in Texas? I just stay by the water source and wait for them, usually during night.

RE: Who is a hot weather hunter (summer)
Well, the Porkapaloza is over & 8 Bowhunters dropped hogs of every size. I will post pics later. I had to leave early due to family member illness but 8 Bowhunters took (I think) 18 hogs.

Man TEXAS SUMMERS are HOT, we still hunt pigs though. Mornings have been good to us in general.WATER is also good to hang out around, but we have been having so much rain lately, everything is wet. It's starting to getHOTso... lets say bye bye water everywhere.

RE: Who is a hot weather hunter (summer)
We hunt all year round on my ranch. Summer is hard on the hogs and the hunters, but we hunt mostly early and late, and set in the shade or a/c during the middle of the day. This year we have got a lot of rain and there is water in the creeks and all the ponds right now, so the hogs are in real good shape.

RE: Who is a hot weather hunter (summer)
I continue to bowhunt through the summer so I have to really pay attention to the wind and scent control measures.

RE: Who is a hot weather hunter (summer)

Woke up this morning and rain still hammering us. I just seen a old man with long white hair and beard wearing a white robe carrying a staff and following him all sorts of animals in pairs. Do you think it is a sign?[8D]:);):D |
