357 Mag
I would like to use my Rossi 357 Mag rifle. Tree stand, 50 to 100 yards. Is this a bad idea .

RE: 357 Mag
On hogs, yes
|
RE: 357 Mag
O.K. why ?
|
RE: 357 Mag
I'd like something with a bit more punch for hogs, just in case.
|
RE: 357 Mag
Fair enough. I will leave the saddle gun at home. How about a 270
|
RE: 357 Mag
.270 would be darned near perfect.

RE: 357 Mag
Thanks Beartooth

RE: 357 Mag
Anytime, my friend. God Bless, and good hunting.
|
RE: 357 Mag
Hey Beartooth, some of my friends just take the backstrap and leave the rest. I personally would prefer to take all meat available. any suggestions ?
|
RE: 357 Mag
Bring a cooler, and put it on ice. They only take the backstraps? that is wasteful, I'm like you, I prefer to take all I can.

RE: 357 Mag
Can I treat it the same as venison ? Clean it, cool it, then proces it ?

RE: 357 Mag
O.K. O.K. Got it. .357 will not do it. Not gonna stop me from trying though. I will however carry a heavier gun with me.

RE: 357 Mag
enough gun? Thats a wise tale. I cant count the number of hogs ive taken with my 357 pistol. Its all in shot placement. Ive taken them with my 38 snub nose as well as a 22 mag. Ive even seen a hog taken with a pelet gun. It was on the outdoor channel. I wouldnt suggest it, but it did drop it on the spot. If a 357 is all you got, it will work. If you have a 270, go with it.

RE: 357 Mag
Rebel Hog is right on the money.
I have used the Federal 180 grain load in a 4" barrelled revolver with excellent results. Its all about shot placement. That pump-gun sounds like a lot of fun for Hogs. Go get em'. Good Hunting, Bowflex |
RE: 357 Mag
I think anything that you can get a clean kill with - but i wouldn't use a .22 [:@]

RE: 357 Mag
Sorry guys. . .oops and gals. . . .I truley enjoyed using my browning 94 in a .357 to spot and stock hogs. This slower moving 185Gr. roundhas alot of energy at short ranges. It gets your heart pounding when your on youir belly in the grass at 20yards from a group of hogs and they finally figure out there in trouble. . .never yet had one stand back up after they met that round.
Head shots. . . .:D |
RE: 357 Mag
Took the 357 saddle gun last weekend and was very pleased. Also took a 30-06 as a backup. Hogs showed up at less than 75 yards and the saddle gun worked well. Dropped a smoker on the spot and trailed a 150 lb for maybe 75 yards. Never took the 30-06 out of the case.

RE: 357 Mag
Good Hunting! Glad you stuck to your gun. I'm gonna try with a blk pwd
revolver in the fall in FL. Where did you get your hogs? |
