Gearing up.....

Bear with me....I'm gearing up for my first hog hunt. I will probably be hunting near bait in an elevatedbow stand.

At this point I know that a feral hog's eyesight is notthe greatest so I'm just going with my regular camo....no problem.

I know they have good hearing and I've learned from bow hunting deer the importance of being quiet. No problem.

I have been reading and hearing about their keen sense of smell. When deer hunting I use the cover scents.....pin-on wafers, etc. . I guess it works. I use the odorless laundry soap and keep my hunting clothes isolated until time to go. I spray vanilla on my boots. In short, I try to go the extra mile to cover my scent. It seems to work as I have had lots of mule deer hang around me without so much as a snort. My question is....are these same scent control methods used for hogs? What are the products that work? What do others recommend? Inquiring minds want to know. thx Ray

I use scent killer spray on everything before I head to my stand. I wash my camo in sportswash or baking soda and first and formost, KEEP THE WIND IN YOUR FACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Play the game like you do whitetail and you won't have a problem.

This time of year you may want to consider bringing a Therma-cell along. It doesn't seem to bother the hogs a bit and can really help reduce movement on stand. No swatting at pesky bugs!

thx txjourneyman....I've been wanting to try the therma-cell products and I just went to their store locator and see I can get it locally at Home Depot and WalMart. thx. I have been using a full head camo-net but the therma-cell may be better. Ray
