Interesting article on Hogs in Lubbock, Texas

Well, I was just questioning The Rev on whether there were any pigs around Lubbock and today this article hits our local paper.

http://www.lubbockonline.com/stories/022207/lif_022207029.shtml

It is a free registration, but that's sometimes a hassle soI'll paste some of the better quotes out of the article.

Just a few months ago, animal control was called to the LakeRidge neighborhood in Southwest Lubbock after residents called complaining of a wild hog strolling through the golf course.

When wild animals get that close to homes, the typical protocol is to tranquilize them, according to Laura Forsythe, field supervisor with Lubbock Animal Services.

But that's impossible with most feral pigs, she said. "The darts bounce off," Forsythe said. "Their hide is too thick."

Luckily, Forsythe found a bow hunter willing to come "remove" the boar.

For Les McDaniel, what works best sometimes is an AR-15 - the civilian version of a military M-16 with a 30-round magazine.
If you have a real hassle trying to read the article let me know and I could probably cut and paste the whole thing.

FWIW, Nathan

The funny thing is they want to use tranquilizer guns, I guess they are going to turn them back loose again.. Sounds like PETA.. There's only one solution to hogs, DINNER! :D

Remember there are two kinds of lands in Texas, those with hogs, and those that will soon be getting hogs. If you don't have hogs, you will.

Nice to see a positive article about hunting AND the use of one of those "black" rifles to do so.

I'm considering a "black rifle" and some of my northern neighbors(Lubbock) need to find a place for us to help push the hogs back on!I'm buttering up to The Rev when ever possible.:D

My rancher in Lubbock has over 11 square miles of hunting.. We are going to meet with him in March.. if all goes well, we will all have plenty of hunting to do.. "Do I smell a hog tournament in the works?" :D:D

I lived in Lubbock for 25 years. I never saw a hog. I now have a cabin at Whiteriver lake, which is not far from Lubbock and the lake is eat up with hogs. I use to spend a lot of time at Whiteriver and never saw a hog until about 9 years ago. Those things are taking over. The other day, I was out at Buffalo Lakes, which is closer to Lubbock than Ransom Canyon, and I saw two hogs. Never in my life did I see one there before.
