Texas Feral Hog Management Association

Okay, here it is.. www.tfma.citymax.com I just put the website together today. I've been in contact with various county's in Texas. I believe we can make this work Greg (txjourneyman) is looking for land in East Texas for you you guys, and I have been working hard on the rest of the State. I have some good prospects coming up and some meeting to attend. With God's help, this thing will work. We I already have 7,000 acres in Lubbock Co. available in March. So bear with us, we will get hunters and landowners together..
Please visit my website.. and I am open to all options. I am tired of hardworking men being charged for an infestation to start with.

Just joined your TFMA site. I would love for this to work! I have four kids that like to hunt and I love to have them hunt with me so you can imagine how much it would cost me to take them all on a hog hunt, I simply can't afford to take them all and can't take one and leave the others behind!

This does sound like a good idea. It will be important to screen your hunters and your landowners to make it work.

I'm curious about the 7,000 acres in Lubbock county as well. I liveabout 15miles southeast of town on 42 acres on the canyon and haven't seen a single wild pig in 7 years and I've seen deer, turkey, coyotes, bobcat, geese, cranes, quail, dove, etc. Not sure where there is a place with 7,000 acres that would have much of a pig population. Most of Lubbock county is flat open cotton fields.

FWIW, Nathan

All I can tell you is his son is an Ag extension agent, he gave me his dads number. The rancher has most of the land leased out for quail right now. He told me he has a serious hog problem. They have been trapping hogs and can't get rid of them. I told him we had a lot of bow hunters, he just laughed. He said your going to need more an a bow to kill all the hogs I have on my place..

So I can't tell you where he's at. I know I am going to have to screen hunters. Before any arrangement is made I will personally meet the landowner, and insure the hunter is a straight up guy.. I will have to weed out the bad apples. I will need to have references and they will be checked.

Hey guys the response has been overwhelming. Please bear with me as all this is just coming together. I still have to make up all the rules and regulations. I still havesome of Ag. Agents to visit and before I send anyone to a ranch. I want to personally go and visit and make sure they are on the up and up.

Bear with me, these things take some time.. Any lawyers that want to help draw up some liability exclusions your more than welcome to email me.

Rev,

I replied to your e-mail for joining up but I must admit I didn't have an answer for references and locations I have hunted in TX. Since I have never had the pleasure of hunting there...hope you won't hold that against me.

Thanks

I was sending out apps, but the response was overwhelming. If you've left me your email address on the site I have it..When we start organizing hunts I will contact every one. It's easier that way.

To update everyone. Guys I tried... It just ain't gonna fly. I was told that I was fighting a losing battle, and I guess I was. Ranchers out west are getting 49 cents a pound for live hogs, and others are just enjoying charging us to kill their hogs. The third and final reason is my corporate lawyer told me to run from this, as I could be caught in a liable situation. I really enjoy all my toys that has taken me 58 years to acquire. Hey, I tried, Sorry.

The old saying goes something like "You never know until you try". THANKS for your efforts. Even though it didn't fly, you and Txjourneyman and others are to be commended for your efforts.
And....thanks for your upfront explanation. Keep up the good work! Ray

Guys this doesn't mean you can't take some action on your own. Contact your local ag agent, farmers and ranchers. Not just here but anywhere feral hogs are established. You may surprise yourself and find a place to hunt. I will still do my best to get guys out for a hunt with me. There are more guys wanting to hunt than weekends in a year. Be patient, it could take a while.

Thanks to all who gave of their time to try and make this happen. Like I'm all waystelling my kids...if you don't ask the question then you already know the answer!

Yep Rev. that is what I ran into around here when I was asking around for ya. The farmers had either leased out their land to hunters or outfitters, or charge a 100 bucks a day to kill a hog. They thought I was crazy when i was asking them to allow hunters to come and remove the hogs for free, they would say "Free, I get at least 100 bucks a day for that". The old days are over.
