The babirusa is a very strange pig from a few islands in Indonesia. It has tusks which - according to a native legend - it uses to hang by from a branch in a tree at night. In fact these tusks - which grow through the top of the animal's head - are really for defending itself against enemies. The babirusa is a good swim-mer and will often bravely launch itself into the sea to reach nearby islands. It is mostly a nocturnal animal - but reveals its presence by low grunting moans - which can be heard along way off.
