Didn't realize that I could only post one pic at a time. Here is the other one.
I'm new here. Wonder why the second pic didn't show like the first?? |
RE: A couple of Piggies

RE: A couple of Piggies
how come the hogs in indiana don't have tusks like that. does it have to do with a genetic thing

ORIGINAL: forrest40 how come the hogs in indiana don't have tusks like that. does it have to do with a genetic thing that is one fine porker. as for the 2nd. pic. make sure you space bar one time and then do the same as the 1st. something didn't comeup as the other. sometimes the [ ]'s aren't right. if you hit preview and check it,then you can sometimes see whta's wrong. Just a though.sometimes it takes me several tries to get it to work. |
RE: A couple of Piggies
Man those guys will make some good euro mounts.
Congrats |
RE: A couple of Piggies
Ausie-guy, thanks you. I'll try another pic and see if I can get it to work properly.
Rebel Hog, you need to take them up on a trip down here. Plenty of hogs that we see as vermin on most ranches. forest 40, all of our boars don't have tusks that size. That particular hog was not out of the ordinary heavy so I guess he just had the genes..! I really don't know much about the age of feral hogs, I'll try to do a bitof research. Here is one from last year on our place. |
RE: A couple of Piggies
Ausie-guy, when I try to "review" my post, it only shows the text and says that attachments will not show up. If you click on the "attachment" it will show the pic. I must not yet have the magic required.:)

RE: A couple of Piggies
Wonder what I did wrong??
I did a little research re feral hog ages and found out that the average length of life is 4 to 5 years andsome are known to have lived as long as 8 years. Here is a closeup. ![]() Ah-ha, I think I had not clicked the box "imbed" in the pics that didn't work. |
RE: A couple of Piggies
Here is another pig from last year.
Yep, it works when I check the "embed" block. |
RE: A couple of Piggies
DAMN!!! YOULL got some nice pigs. Well you can get alot of pigs here but yu have to know someone with land in Brazos and Navasota river bottom. Thats where everything is.
|
RE: A couple of Piggies
some day we will have them in MN, till then I am just dreaming:(
|
RE: A couple of Piggies
Nice pig, now you just have to shed that LSU shirt... I can get you a Texas Tech shirt.:D:D:D
|
RE: A couple of Piggies
Rev, that guy is from south of Baton Rouge andI suspect that "shirt" might be a tatoo.[8D]
|
RE: A couple of Piggies
rankbull, don't wish for something you might actually get. We see them as varmints to be killed on sight day or night and as long as our rancher declares them to be a "depracating" animal, no hunting license is even required. There areover 1million of them in TX and no end in sight.

RE: A couple of Piggies

RE: A couple of Piggies
"Who knows?" Rev, what a strange reply. As I said before, you are wrong in any assumption that I am an outfitter.
I assumed that posters here had common reading skills whenI posted my signature link, was I wrong in your case? |

RE: A couple of Piggies
It appears that none of my "relatives" have ever posted. Would that mean that they are figments?? Maybe they are not the only figments..!
Here is a pic of a hog that apparently had been shot but survived with its guts hanging out. They can be tough animals for those that are not hit in the right place. ![]() |
RE: A couple of Piggies
Nice piggies!
|
RE: A couple of Piggies
I looked forever to find a place in North America where I could kill a 100 percent, pureblood Russian boar. I ended up going to Ontario, Canada and shooting one on a reserve (Ontario has since ended canned hunting ... my hunt there was fun, but the results were guaranteed behind a high-fence). This hog you killed in Texas is every bitas impressive as the one I killedon the reserve. Very nice trophy. Exceptional Texas boar!
|
RE: A couple of Piggies
Thank you Dr. Swat. I have no idea what these Tx hogs are since we see them in all forms and colors. I've seen a few that looked like "Russians" but the majority look more like domestic hogs but with larger more elongated heads.
The place that these hogs came from has had a huge population in years past. We killed about 200 in 2003, 150 in 2004,60 in 2005 and only 15 in 2006. Not only is the pressure apparently getting to them but the drought certainly has to be effecting the surviveability of offspring. Here is a typical size and grouping. Nothing like those big boars that are fairly rare. ![]() |
