FEEDER ISSUE
 

Ok ,this is a general feeder question, but since hog hunters are the most creative and intelligent(LOL!!!!!!!!!).......what is everyone doing to make the corn continue to feed down to the wheel without it getting stuck? I've tried 3 different feeders and all of them get stuck at some point and stop flowing corn down the hole and I end up not feeding for a couple of weeks sometimes. Then I run over and hit the side and the corn starts pouring down again. I know someone has come up with something to cure this.

i make sure that the water is not getting in the feeder, dont add additives like beast feast it collects moisture . also add a little sand it will stop the clog. question/ i can hunt hogs all day long here in SC but cant seem to find a monster wall hanger --got any

Have you tried Cracked Corn?

We bump into some in the 300 lb. range, but we are hunting free range so it takes a bit of work. What we do have is some superior old genetics and the Razorbacks on them are awesome. Real tall mohawks on good sized pigs. If you consistently use Sow in Heat, you'll eventually attract the biggest you have, whatever that might be, but we don't have any real strong domestic crosses to get them to that 500 - 600 lbs size.

I did try cracked corn, but it seems to do the same thing. I don't have any moisture getting in and I no longer use additives, but I haven't tried the sand trick. That sounds pretty good.

Do you have a funnel down in the bottom of your feeder? We have a large funnel in the bottom of ours so it is sloping all the way down to the feeder and never have any problems with corn getting hung up. We did with the protein feed which was getting moisture but the corn feeds fine.

That was my original idea. I was gonna put a funnel at the bottom, but I wasn't sure if it would make it bind up more or less with the increased downward pressure. Now that you told me, I'm gonna adda funnel to. Did you make yours andinsert it or did the feeder come like that?

Ours came with it but you can make them just as easy.

JeffS is correct, the only way to fix the problem is to put a funnel in there. Unless you have hogs big enough to rub on the feeder and constantly knock the corn out, like we do.

We have 'em big enough, but the feeder is about 8 feet in the air on a tripod. Unless we get them flying pigs(LOL!!!!), I'm gonna be stuck using the funnel.

We have pics of them standing on their hind legs shaking the legs of the feeder to make the corn drop, or they will run and hit the legs and ty to flip the feeder over. We had one they actually bent the legs on it trying to knock it over. On our new ones the barrel hangs by a winch so even if you shake the legs the corn will not fall.
