ARE WILD BOAR WORTH.....

Is it worth $750.00 lodging not included for a trophy boar{400 to 500 ibs} gauranteed 4 day hunting trip and would you choose ground blind hunting in barley fields, stalking,or dogs. But if I do it I have to travel from southern oregon to northern california.

RE: ARE WILD BOAR WORTH.....

IMHO No it is not worth the dollars.

Not only do you have to pay for the hunt but travel to and from plus lodging could run into $1500 real quick and no pig is worth that sort of money in my books;)

RE: ARE WILD BOAR WORTH.....

Well its worth that much, but you can get an awesome trip for$500-600 including lodging. I can pm you the details of the outfitter. I believe he is actually a member on huntingnet. I can personally say it was one of the best bowhunting trips I have ever been on.

Not to me it's not, but to some it is. If I were going to shoot a hog I'd pick one out that was 100 pounds or less so I could eat it. Don't hurt yourself on the fence.[&:]

Now David, those 500 pounders taste just as good as the babys. I've had both. The boar hunts I have been on are not guranteed by any stretch, but are just as exciting, if not more than any other hunt. Alot of the outfitters in TN that have 2,000 + acres with high fences will take you on a hunt were you will never see a fence during the hunt. Its amazing to hunt a 500+ pound animal with 7 inch cutters that has absolutely no fear of you with nothing but a bow and arrow. They will shred you if your not on top of your game.

So can that fence. LOL

Really, I've always heard and been told they big pigs suck as far as table fair. I know people that hunt wild hogs in Florida and Georgia year round. They just don't like the big ones. If they're killing for numbers control they'll take them out, but if it's food they pass.

and how many have you been on and how many came up dry inside a fence.

Well, Im 3/3. I dont think that 3 hunts is a very accurate variable to judge the hunts on either. All were 3 day hunts, 1 ended the 1st morning and the next two ended on the 3rd evenning. I hunted in Monterrey TN in 03" with the Fitzgeralds, and Dan ended up killing an immature boar on the 3rd morning, while Guy never had an opportunity. Some types of hunting are more effective than others. For instance, a bowhunter that is running hogs with bay dogs will have more opportunitys than the guy that is sitting in a tree, or even spot and stock hunting. Honestly, Russian boars are the ONLY animal I have or ever will hunt inside a high fence establishment. My reason being, you cannot get a pure blooded boar outside of the fences. It really is a fun hunt. You should seriously consider booking one David. Walking around 2k + acres, theres a good chance you wont see a fence.

I want to go boar hunting so bad and will someday God permitting. Maybe this spring I will go to Texas and do some wild hog hunting on one of those ranches that almost pay you to get rid of them.

Funny the guys that know absoutely nothing always seem to show up with a dark cloud. Not true russians, but there are lots of giant boars not inside a fence.
Capt. I never said I was an expert. I previously said I've been on 3 hunts. But I wouldnt say I know "absolutely nothing" either...Do you hunt hogs in TX capt.? I research some in TX but only turned up high fence ranches with a bunch of feral pigs.

Florida. Not much for deer but lots of piggage.

That's a nice harvest. Where's down here? I've been deer hunting for years but never been on a boar hunt. My wife has been going with me to my blind lately and wants a bow. Encouraging to see couples hunting.

Port Charlotte/Englewood, FL. I prefer to call it a kill. I am not a farmer..:D

Man Capt. Mark... that is one heck of a big oink. Definitely got some huge dang choppers doesn't he. What do you pig hunters use for broadheads on those beast??? ... and PSE, I'm just bustin' chops a little. I know those things can be fun. There has been an annual group that gets together from another board I visit that goes to Florida every year for wild hogs. They get some nice ones but nothing like these things you and Mark are shooting. Those things are truly huge.

Magnus Stinger Buzzcut blows through them like nothing else. Unreal bloodtrail. I have killed a lot with Muzzy's also. I have the kill shot on this one on video.

I personally wouldn't want to pay to hunt a hog although it seems I do. My deer lease in Tx has hogs or feral pigs as one called them. They can be a blast to hunt but they can sure be a pest as well. Do you have any idea of the damagea few 200lb hogs can do to a pasture or food plot in just one night? WOW! I have invited guys to join me just to knock down the numbers some. those things are prolific. Although there are no 500lb russians out there there are some 300 pounders with some good cutters. I took this one last year.

RE: ARE WILD BOAR WORTH.....

I have been on severAL bowhunts in the past 4 years. I go when all regular Deer, Turkey ect.seasons are closed. I have been fortunate to hunt High, Low & no fence properties with good success on all & one Hound Bowhunt that was a blast. Most of my Bowhunts are on properties where feeders are legal (Texas, Oklahoma) for hogs. My average hunt cost has been around $300 (3 & 4 days) plus my $45 tag in Tx. & my driving expenses most are 14 hours away). No lic. for private property in Ok. where I hunt.
Wild hogs are not available in my midwest homestate. I have taken from 80#s through a big tusker with the average probably around 140#150#s. I use a 60# Darton Compound, 2216 Easton Aluminums & 125gr. 3 Blade Rocky Mountain Broadheads on all of them.
It is great fun & can really expand your time hunting for a very reasonable hunt. I doubt I would pay over $500 for any hog hunt since I have done well for around the $300 price.
I have been fortunate to have been Bowhunting many years with many other Biggame (Elk, Black Bear, Caribou) to my credit. I think the wild hog is the toughest animal I have ever taken with a Bow & Arrow & the meanist. Good Luck, it is great fun.
