setting up area for hog hunting???
Hi Guys ,
Just got some acces to private corn fields with pigs and want to through out my scenario to you all to see what you would do. There are pigs , many, and pig trails. They come out around 30 minutes before dark . How should I go about baiting them?? Should I walk the corn rows and hope to see movement or them bedded down , orset up some slop and water. I can drop food and water twice a week in the afternoon time but thats it.. What would you all do in this scenario ? , the land is wrapped around a big hill with a resevoir on top . I use a compound bow and need to shoot these critters b4 dark , but I will follow up later on on blood trail. Thanks for any ideas ;)I would love to post some photos of my 1st pig so any idea's are greatly appreciated. Not to mention some jerky would be nice.:) |

RE: setting up area for hog hunting???
I would find a place downwind where you can look out over the area and get there either before it get's light or a couple hours before dark. Then spot and stalk from there. Good luck Paka.

RE: setting up area for hog hunting???
Still trying, was really hot today so I cant blame the pigs for staying put till dark. I put some slop out with a fish for good luck to keep trying to get them use to eating in that area. . I did notice more poo , so thats a good sighn;)
The saga continues. |

RE: setting up area for hog hunting???
Greenhead911,
Owner wants me out by dark. Why?;) |
RE: setting up area for hog hunting???
I have used a pop up blind and baited an area for hogs. Just make sure the blind is down wind and use something like slop that has a lot of smell. This works good for me and since you are in a corn field, it might just work. Then when you need to leave, the pop up blind is easy to take down. You might want to put some slop on one of the heavly traveled trails and then set the pop up blind about 20 yards away down wind. Hope this helps and good luck.

RE: setting up area for hog hunting???
just asking because even when deer hunting i take my bow light and hunt
30 or so min. after dark and they are either there 30 min. before or after dark (there being my feeder) but if your land owner wants you out at dark try walking the heavy used tails back towards the thick cover and catch them on the way to your slop another way to hunt with out wasting a lot of time is to use a trail cam that way you dont pressure the pig in to not moving during day light hour and when you strart getting day light pics at your slop start wacking them good luck |
RE: setting up area for hog hunting???
I've been hunting them for 4 years and I think I have them figured out. PLease someone correct me if I'm wrong. FIND their wallowing holes. I did today and HONEST 5 minutes after I was settled in my stand there was a congregastion of hogs. I saw 2 during daylight but no good shot .Goin gback tomorrow.
