hog hunting dangers
Apparantly this isn't true, but I always heard you have to use a high caliber rifle to hunt boars, because they charge you after you shoot unless they die or are injured so horribly they can't charge. What dangers would be associated with bowhunting a boar, and how are hogs different?

Most of them scatter when they hear a shot.. A wounded hog will charge if your in the way, normally they just try to get out of there.. I bow hunt only, and I am just concerned when I approach one I shot. I make sureit's dead!

We wrestle them... Ive been face to face with a good bit when they are alive and well, also the people I do it with have been wrestling them since they were 8 and they are now in their 30's We have only been charged once. We bayed a sow with her pigglets. other than that all the get is boars chomping/sharpening their teeth when you hog tie them.
A lot of boars mistake you for trees when you have camo on. Their eyesight is poor and they run towards you and dart the other way thinking your a tree. We stalk them with bows a lot to. Just stay behind trees and they wont get you. Also make sure you give them time to bleed out after the shot. If not there is always treestands. |

thanks for the responses, hunting hogs interests me a lot more than deer! Hope to keep hearing these stories!

Ive shot 2 big pigs and they both booked it, maybe because they didnt see me:DIf they had who knows.

most of the time, it's because you have them cornered.if they have an escape route, they will take it.(I say most of the time).only really had one big boar charge at me,that was because of a couple puppies I had with me and they ran between my legs and behind me,the hog was charging the dogs and I was in the way.I shot him at 4 ' with shotgun.
If you have then bayed with dogs, then don't get in there way.other than that, shoot them and wait till they bleed out and you should be fine. just always be careful whne dealing with game animals of any kind. |

So when I'm wrestling one of these guys, will I lose points if I give him a groin shot? What about that famous wrestling hold, "the Shocker", will that work on a boar?--LOL---I'm 160 lbs, but I've always done better wrestling in a higher weight class anyway!
