For me. I have shot them with everything from muzzle loaders to rifles. If I had to choose only one....it would be my side by side shotgun with 2 slugs ready to go. Great for up close and personal, light to carryand that second shot at the pull of the next trigger comes in quite handy. It's a poor man's Safari rifle.

How about 30-06? You can hunt anything in North America, you can find ammo in any mom an pop store, country hardeware, or sporting goods store in the country. And you can find many different loads to hunt anything from varmits to elk.

I'm leaning towards a 280 Rem. How would that work on hogs and elk.

My all round rifle is a 375H&H but that’s mostly just fun, if I was to have any gun for the job it would be a Remington 870 with both a rifled and smooth bore barrel.
A 30/06 is another top option for most game.
For pigs I use a SXS 12ga and buckshot or a 1 O/Z lee slug or my 260rem and a 120gr pill.

This is my favorite hog rifle, or deer rifle, heck that's all I shoot...To me anything other than that is cheating.

I have had my 270WSM for 3yrs. It is extremely accurate and with a 150gr
BST I have shot 4 deer and 4 hogs none of which even took a step after being hit........Just a week ago I ranged a good boar (130lbs) at 256yards
and hit him in the ear!!!! It is the best all around gun made.....

No I call it my “All round gun” as I can shoot any game in the country from Rabbits to Buffalo without changing rifle or loads, I wouldn’t recommend it for everyone just those who love putting big lead down range.

But my go-to gun is my Model 7 in 260rem.
