im wondering what kind of dogs do you use to hunt hogs with?

ridgeback, kur (sp?), pits. we used everything that will bark at one time or another. but most ppl use the 3 listed.

Down here their mostly Dane, Bull Arab, Wolf hound, Boxer, Bull terrier or a cross of between two or more of the above there are heaps of Bull Mastiffs as well.

Catahoula, Rhodesian Ridge Back and Pit Bull crossed.
Been doing it for 50yrs.:)

i dont use dogs nomore .but when i did i used plotts and pits .

Lee, in 1967 I went to Franklin,NC to meet with and purchased 2 pups from Mr. Plott. Had the Plotts for a few years and they did pretty good, but I met this Dog Hog hunter who had Catahoulas and fell in love with the breed. His were already mixed with Blue Tick and Red Bone, so in 1970 I ordered 2 Catahoula Pure Bred pups from Arkansas. The best cross I came up with was the one above and continued for over 35yrs.
When you select breeds for crossing, consider the characteristics of the breeds.

1. Catahoula= Natural Hunter
2. Rhodesian Ridge Back= Courage (used in lion hunting)
3. Pitt Bull= Shorter legs and a Jaw that slip locks

260, I am surprised they use bull's. I know they are about the most courageous dogs there are, but didn't think they had the stamina to run so hard. I have seen those kur run and run for 5 hours staight.
